I don't think it's a difficult call. Alabama would have the better win (Georgia), the better loss (Texas), wins against better opponents, and looked more dominant throughout the season. One head-to-head early season game is not going to override the other 12 games. And while it technically shouldn't matter, if they want to retain interest and credibility, I don't see any way a 1-loss SEC champ is left out of the playoffs given the SEC's past success.
I think Alabama is clearly the better team, but head to head is supposed to be a tie breaker when teams are close. If Alabama beats Georgia, that would actually make Texas win better. I remember in the old days of the BCS that Washington, Miami, & FSU all had one loss, but FSU went despite losing to Miami and Miami losing to Washington.
Fair point - yeah, if Alabama beats Georgia on a neutral field, that would end up being less impressive than Texas beating Alabama on the road. So this might be a closer call than I thought, though I still can't imagine the playoff committee leaving the SEC Champ out. Texas losing to an OU team that didn't make the top 2 of their conference might be the deciding factor, but who knows.
I think Texas’s only path to the playoff is with a win and a Florida St loss. That’s their spot. One of those 4 playoff spots are going to Georgia or Alabama. One is going to Oregon or Washington.
Hopefully FSU loses to Louisville and Texas gets in regardless. I kind of want to Michigan to lose too so there is a chance of UGA and Alabama making it. I don't actually feel Texas is one of the best 4 teams, but they are better than FSU and will have the best resume of one loss teams (UGA and Washington could argue if they lose their title games, but since conference titles matter, Texas wins over those 2). If I ranked them based purely on how good the playoff contenders are, I'd have: 1) UGA 2) Michigan 3) Oregon 4) Alabama 5) Washington 6) Ohio St 7) Texas 8) Florida St Based on the actual resumes I go: 1) Michigan 2) Georgia (they jump to 1 with Alabama win) 3) Washington 4) Florida St 5) Oregon 6) Texas (honestly 5-7 are a virtual tie, but I ranked them based on the order they would fall if Texas & Oregon win) 7) Ohio St 8) Alabama (they jump Ohio St if they win) All 8 have a path to the game, and we've seen crazy things before. Michigan should be the only heavy favorite. Really sucks that the Big 10 has their 3 best teams in the same the division making for a crappy title game almost every year. It has been 10 straight for the East division teams and would be 11 if Ohio St & Penn St hadn't been banned from postseason play in 2012. It would be so much better if they went back to their old division format that had Michigan and Ohio St on opposite sides. They went to the East/West format in 2013 and the West hasn't won.
Undefeated until they are not. They play in a major conference and they did beat the pants off of a very good LSU team giving them a premium win. Texas has 1 premium win Ohio St has 2 premium wins Alabama has 2 premium wins Oregon has 1ish premium win At the end of the day, it takes a lot to jump an undefeated team in a major conference.
Dead Longhorn found outside frat house A dead longhorn was found outside of the Oklahoma State FarmHouse fraternity house early Friday morning. The longhorn, which had “F*** FH” carved into its left side and had a cut along its abdomen exposing its intestines, was reported to the Stillwater Police Department at 6:39 a.m. SPD Lieutenant TJ Low said this situation is a first for him. “This is the first thing I’ve ever heard of anything like this,” Low said. Around 9 a.m., a trailer arrived to remove the longhorn from FarmHouse’s front lawn. A representative of FarmHouse, who helped SPD load the longhorn onto the trailer, said they are leaving it to SPD. “Our comment is the authorities are investigating it,” the representative said. “It’s been turned over to the authorities.” Low said the guilty party could face an animal cruelty charge, which is a felony. Any further charges will be at the discretion of the Payne County District Attorney’s office. “Definitely a cruel, cruel crime to commit,” Low said. OSU released a statement at 10:23 a.m. regarding the investigation. "Oklahoma State University is appalled at the disturbing display of animal cruelty that occurred overnight at an off-campus location near a fraternity house," the statement said. "The Stillwater Police Department is investigating the incident, and the university’s Office of Student Support and Conduct also has initiated an investigation. "Oklahoma State expects all students to adhere to university codes of conduct, and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation." Spoiler
True. As always, the 4 team tournament sucks. I pray that FSU loses, because neither FSU or Washington is better than the Longhorns, loser of Alabama/Georgia, or Ohio State. At least one of them would get in with a FSU loss.
They barely lost that game. Without all those turnovers they win. They had more yards and better TOP. They beat Bama pretty soundly.
And it resolved itself, which is what makes the week-to-week bellyaching about in-season CFP standings that don't matter so silly. They serve no purpose other than to create drama and controversy, and I guess they succeed at that. I guess so - but turnovers are part of the game. I'm pretty sure a lot of teams would win a lot of games if they took away their turnovers.
