I can feel empathy with that unknown individual, but not let it guide my policy beliefs. That man is basically in the same terrible situation a German non-Nazi would have been in in 1942. The right policy decision is to liberate this man from Hamas, just like the right decision was to liberate Germany from the Nazis. Only way to do it is by force.
The Nazis were evil because they were a war machine that suppressed the self determination of many groups of people with methods of invasion or ethnic cleansing. To compare Gazans to the Nazi regime is absurd. Hamas is like any other terror/militia group that forms within a oppressed stateless society akin to the ANC or IRA or Kurd resistance all of which have purposefully attacked civilians. But honestly this isn't surprising. Like I wouldn't be surprised if you labeled any resistance to the Boer Apartheid South African government as Nazi like.
