I think Sengun is on the road to being on par or close to Jokic level. I don’t think that he will be as big ever, and I doubt that he ends up being quite that good of a long range shooter. But I think that he can pass him up as far as athleticism? Defensive impact and ball handling.
I think some relevant members of the fanbase might still (irrationally) be hoping that the Rockets might be looking for a different STARTING center. Just a 60% hunch of mine, I might be wrong.
The "archetype" narrative was such nonsense. What's Alperens archetype? The best player in the league, 2xMVP (shoulda been 3x), NBA Finals MVP, Best Player on the NBA Champion? What's wrong with this archetype? NBA draft-nerd culture is just weird. Cool word, though, archetype...
Not me. I thought Sengun was a steal and would be very, very good, but the clear #1 in that draft? I didn't see that. I thought it might be Mobley. OTOH, I didn't understand why Cunningham was thought of so highly; nothing from him impressed me much. Reaves, being undrafted by choice (he declined being selected 42nd and opted instead to sign a two-way contract with the Lakers), is another amazing story from that draft.
I think he has a real chance to be the 2nd best Rocket of all time by the time it is all said and done. That being said the #1 spot will never be topped.
