Since it’s been brought up the initial act that sparked the riots in Dublin is unclear. There was a stabbing of three people including children in Dublin. There is a rumor that was suspect who did it was an Algerian immigrant. That rumor was spread by Rightwing posters on social media but is not confirmed and othe than it was a 50 year old male no other confirmed info is out yet from IRIsh LE.

I also heard another rumor from people who are tied to Ireland that the suspect was a right leaning Irish but also unconfirmed.

either way the rioting does appear to be carried out by right leaning anti immigrant Irish.

The guy who stopped the assailant was a Brazilian resident of Dublin. I watched a ton of coverage on this yesterday, as you might imagine lol

Certainly, a part of it, especially among MAGA. I would say, though, in general, among the whole population, stereotyping, deception, and manipulation by bad actors are a more significant part.

I don't think there is any "fear" of Chinese.

When is the last time an illegal Irish immigrant worker has committed a terror attack on American soil?

They don't come here to wage jihad. Others do.

There’s a lot of fear of “Chinese”. There was a lot of fear stoked by COVID, there is a lot of fear because of the trade war, there is a lot of fear of TikTok. The state you live in wants to pass a law forbidding PRC nationals from owning property.

It wasn’t that long ago that Irish groups were considered terrorists and following the good Friday Peace accords many IRA members became essentially consultant to groups like the FARC and Sendero Luminosa. In recent years group like the Real IRA have still not said they gave up violence while some
Of the Protestant militia groups have become aligned with Neo Nazis.

besides they the vast vast vast majority of people from Venezuela and other countries crossing the US border aren’t here to commit Jihad. They are here for what most of our families came here for. To build a better life.

Just noting the irony of a thread about illegal immigration on the week that we celebrate a holiday about a group of religious extremists immigrants who came here without the permission of the existing residents.

This again speaks to the stereotyping - Muslims are jihadis coming over here to destroy America and Western Civilization (nevermind that most of them just want to be part of Western Civilization to enjoy the modern society and wealth). Take a small segment of the population and apply it to all.

The same goes for the Chinese. It was just two years ago that Chinese/Asian looking people were being blamed for the "kung flu" virus.

Concerns about the diabolic CCP should not be confused with "fear of Chinese people". I will agree that, during Covid, this fear/partial racism existed; now, not really

Regarding the communism point, I think what I was trying to say is that parts of the Republican party used to be pro-immigration, particularly during the Cold War and trying to show the world that communism sucks and being proud to take in those escaping from communism. Nowadays, most Republicans are still anti-communist, but that doesn't mean they want to take in those fleeing from failed communist states.
