This is the weirdest plus / minus I have seen, Jalen was a +0, but every single other player was a positive in a blow out game? Jabari +16, Sengun +12, Fred +30, strange to see a rotation player, and a starter that played that many minutes be a +0 playing 36 minutes and the team winning by 19. I didn't get a chance to watch this game yet, but don't think i've seen a statline like that ever.
Some of his interior passes to Alpi were terrible and should not have been attempted, but it's a part of the learning process.
He literally let them back in the game with those turnovers, then he went the opposite way and started scoring - just a strange dude.....above average as a finisher - for sure. DD
Hey, he probably doesn’t hate all his fans, maybe he just thinks some of the unreasonable ones can be annoying. Like when they were making posts how Sengun was the same height as Jokic and putting some lame pictures as proof. When anyone with any objectivity and moderate eye sight watching the game can see that Jokic is a much larger human being in every sense lol.
In the past, when Jalen would string together good scoring games, his points usually had little bearing on the result. Now, in these last two games, Jalen has provided a scoring punch when we needed it--and that's resulted in two good wins. He's learning how to win, and learning how to use his talents to further the team's goals. I'm certain he will have rough games in the future, and he's far from a finished product...but I've loved what I've seen from him in these last two outings and I hope he can keep the momentum going.
very, very nice. there were lowlights, too… High variance player, but is an important piece to this team. Without him it’s a good but rather tedious team.
Jalen plays with the bench as the backup pg. On top of that his own backups are Jaesean Tate and Holiday, both of whom are playing phenomenally. So when his backups are amazing and he plays less mins with the starters and more with the bench it results in a lower plus minus than everybody else.
He is contributing to winning basketball on both ends of the court. The scary part about JG, Jabari and Alperen is that they all have so much damn room to get better. All three still make rookie mistakes, and all three occasionally play like Bambi. Imagine them all at 25-26… Udoka is turning these guys into killers. We might have 3 future all-stars at 2-4-5.
Good, at least you could go over to plan how to improve the Bench.....tick off the boxes until you got all the things covered.
when asked what’s the difference from the past with Jalen, coach Udoka said "competitiveness" It’s strange that it took 2+ years from playing ballet to playing basketball, but there are good signs, we can see them. let’s hope it’s sustainable
This team feels like a 4/5/6 seed as currently constructed. If Jalen can become consistent, they can 100% compete with anyone in the West. His development is a really big deal.
I was with my Father in Law last night as we were watching the game and we had a discussion about Jalen in particular. Doc Rivers and Bill Simmons actually talked about the same thing on their little podcast. Guys like Jalen have been in AAU ball since they were 10 years old. Always, being told how great they are, playing 5-6-7 games a week. Never practicing with a winning mindset. Only a ME mindset. These same kids are too good for high school and have almost no incentive to be coached as they feel its a detriment to their own production, or self interest of making it to the next level. Did you hear his comments about working out with Kevin Durant this offseason? The biggest takeaway was that he should do all reps at game speed...... HUGE Red FLAG as this man has never really worked like a professional. Its been all talent and going through the motions. Great for upside, but for me... its not something you want to hear. Moving on. He then went to the G League Ignite in which he was giving full reigns. They aren't going to bench guys coming out of highschool because then they risk losing the interest of top tier high school players. So what type of accountability was he taught there...? None. Drafted 2nd Overall, he was put in a situation where he was handed the keys on a tanking team. He was developed by a soft coach and once again ZERO accountability. Jalen spent two years doing the same thing. Then here comes Ime. 15 games in, and guys like Jabari and Jalen are getting benched for playing selfish and just plain horrible. For the first time in his career, Jalen is getting properly challenged by a coach who says get on my level or your career is going to go down in flames. Now you are seeing a hyper athlete with skills focusing on doing the right thing for the team. You have to be patient with Jalen as he is so young and so skilled... but man I have no doubt he is on the right track to becoming a really good 2nd option. Number 1 is Alpy, but he can't do it without Jalen.
