Hopefully he gets some burn at the end of the year or next year as a back up. I don't see cam getting the starting job until the final year of Brooks.
Thing is, he really seems to be learning a lot in the G League. Passing seems to have improved slightly, he's actually aware of his surroundings when he's attacking the basket. I'm sure they'll work on his understanding of NBA defense given this is his rookie season as one of the youngest players in the NBA. He's an extremely young rookie. I say let him stay there till he's learned everything he can learn there. Good for his development and building confidence before competing for NBA minutes.
Looks like a different player. It's good to see how players react to adversity. 6 months ago he was planning on being a Top 7 pick. Now he got picked 20th and sent to the G League. That would be a tough pill to swallow for some kids who've been gassed up in the current American coddle system for 8 years. I wouldn't be opposed to Ime giving him some run in real games/blow outs later on and see if he can stretch the lead against reserves. If not, then back to the G League.
Cannon shot 36.5% and Covington 37% so yes, they missed much more. Significantly lower than Cam's 47.6%. Granted a small sample size so most likely his percentage will go down with more time played. The point is if you can shoot you can shoot.
Shoot, you’re right. I had recollected incorrectly as I thought their #s were in the 40s. However, I disagree. Sure if you can shoot you can shoot. Now, let’s toss in a few random: How open How much time to release How much does the noise, location, situation, fatigue affect your release?
Context is everything. Orlando was up by 20 already, Queen takes and makes a 3 and, on his way, back up the court does a little showboat dance. I'd have bounced one off his dome too given the chance.
That “dance” is pretty tame compared to the **** most nba players do off the most routine and simple shots… and also with point differential mattering for tie breakers the league is encouraging teams not to give up just because of big leagues. If he’s mentally that short, he’s not gonna make it up here…
This is the November 24th game. Cam played a pretty good game, and helped them win in the 4th quarter, but the Vipers tried to do everything possible to lose in the last minute or two of the game. Cam had one of the more puzzling plays in the final 15 seconds. lol. I think he just forgot or didn't know how much time was left in the game. Cam plays are in the spoiler. Spoiler 1st quarter : 11:45 - bad pass on break to Days after good hustle getting steal 11:33 - fumbled hand-off between Cam and Samuels. Can't tell if Queen tipped it to cause the fumble or just stole it after. 08:54 - Missed 3-pt jumper 08:43 - Cam gets the outlet pass, takes off , and gets fouled 08:35 - Cam gets the ball around the top of the key, drives into the paint, throws a shoulder into the defender (because he's a bully), misses the shot, but gets the rebound and layup. 07:32 - Cam goes to the bench 05:31 - Cam back in 04:10 - Cam step-back 3 04:08 - Cam hauls ass back to try and contest a fast break/long outlet layup and just misses blocking it 03:48 - Cam with a whip pass he seems to attempt a lot to Samuels, but no bucket 03:26 - Cam skies in for the rebound, brings the ball up the court, looks like Culver is about to set a pick for him, oops, nevermind - instead Cam accelerates into 3 defenders and dunks it. 01:50 - Cam gets the rebound and pushes it up the court, but misses layup 01:35 - Cam attempts a lunging steal - misses 01:20 - Cam brings the ball up the court, passes off to Culver, gets it back, misses a 3 00:48 - Cam goes inside and rebounds Mitchell's miss and puts it back in for a layup. 00:29 - Cam brings the ball up the court to end the quarter, gets fouled on his left side, but somehow hurt his right shoulder. Looks hurt. 00:07 - Cam gets the grenade to end the quarter, launches it, and misses 2nd quarter : 09:48 - Did Cam fall asleep on this free throw? I'm guessing he's still not used to the G-League experimental FT rules. 09:20 - Cam goes to the bench. 04:47 - Cam back in 03:43 - Cam inbounds the ball, gets it back, tries to go one-on-one with his arch-nemesis Trevelin Queen, drives into the paint/traffic and gets his shot blocked 02:50 - Cam brings the ball up the court (that's all I got) 02:24 - Cam brings the ball up the court, passes it to Days, who chunks a brick. 01:54 - Cam gets the ball, threatens a drive to cause a separation, causing Queen to backstep, and pops a long 2. 01:03 - Cam brings the ball up the court and takes a quick 3 - misses. 3rd quarter : 11:45 - Cam hits an open 3 11:18 - Cam gets sick of Queen scoring since the 2nd quarter (lol) and just pushes the ball up the court himself and gets the layup on him. 10:59 - Cam fakes a pass into the lane and during a hop in his dribble instead passes to an open Lecque out by the 3 point line who drives it in and dunks it. 10:50 - ATO, Cam gets the ball and slings the ball to Lecque who bricks a 3. 10:26 - Cam gets the ball, jukes Queen, thought he was going to shoot the 3, but decides to pass off to Days who bricks. Nice move, though. 10:05 - Cam brings the ball up and jacks a 3 with Queen's hand in his face. Queen blocks the attempt. Looks like he may have been fouled. 09:09 - Cam brings the ball up, tries to drive into the defense and travels. 08:58 - Cam makes up for his mistake when he blocks the shot of a driving Brandon Williams which leads to a fast break with Days converting a layup. 07:45 - Hinton runs the break, attempts a lob to Whitmore, that was a tapped away, Cam gets the ball back, but steps out of bounds while setting up for a 3. 06:40 - Cam gets the ball and immediately shoots a 26-foot 3... miss. 06:28 - Culver attempts a lob pass to Cam, but bad pass. The ceiling of the pass was through the roof. 05:55 - Cam brings the ball up the court, drives to get by the defender, but defender blocks the shot from behind. 04:00 - Cam passes it to Spalding for 3 and the easy assist 03:05 - Cam gets the ball and jacks an ugly brick of a 3. Could be getting tired. 02:33 - Cam gets the ball deep in the paint, bumps off the defender, but loses control of the ball 02:25 - Cam goes to the bench. 4th quarter : 12:00 - Cam back in to start the 4th quarter 08:15 - Cam gets the pass, thinks about it, and with a smaller defender on him and without even a dribble launches it from 26 feet and hits. Pretty shot. 07:31 - Lecque finds Cam wanting to run a break down the middle of the court. Cam catches the ball and eurosteps down the lane for a layup. 06:35 - Cam gets the ball out at 25 feet. Tries to juke Queen, but instead lets it launch for 3, but misses. 04:34 - Hinton gets a rebound and throws a pass to a breaking Whitmore who tries to eurostep into a layup, but misses. He rebounds his own miss and powers it up for a layup. 04:15 - Cam's man gets behind him and goes for a layup, but Cam recovers and almost blocks the shot, but ends up fouling him instead. 04:00 - Cam gets a mismatch on McClung near the basket. Culver realizes it and lobs him the ball. Whitmore catches it, turns around and shoots a 16-18 footer over McClung. 01:56 - Cam takes the ball from about 30 feet out, splits 2 defenders, drives to the hoop and tries to posterize a defender with a 2-handed dunk, but is robbed as he gets fouled. Hits 1 of 2 fts. 01:36 - Cam brings the ball up the court and just decides to take it all the way down the lane for a layup, and gets the bucket. 01:15 - Cam tries the same thing again by bringing the ball up the court, splitting a couple of defenders, but this time gets the ball knocked away from him on the drive to the hoop. Turnover. 00:20 - Cam gets a blocking foul called on him, but it gets reversed on the challenge (apparently). It was a close call, but nice defensive attempt by Cam. 00:14 - Cam gets the rebounded off the McClung miss. But with 9.5 seconds left decides to throw the ball up in the air. lol. Not sure wth he was thinking here. Magic player catches the ball with 6.5 left passes to another player who gets fouled shooting a 3.
He has skills but boy his ball-hogging tendencies were tough to watch. He passed the ball to the open man about as well as John Stockton could dunk.
I still have a strong suspicion that Cam's best role might ultimately be 6th man. Could be a blessing in disguise for his career that he was drafted late in the first round. The kind of low-feel/bad court vision he has is difficult to ever fix. But these kinds of players can still be very useful off the bench and even get 25-30 minutes per game.
Lol, I have never encountered as much prejudice with someone who has not played at all. You are talking about these type of players while dude is barely 19 and is almost a blank canvass other than his height and muscles. The Rockets are just not the right team for him now, he needs to be on a losing team to get minutes. This is like comparing Jabari to a god shooter in College, on NBA level is just above average or good.
