Cam was the youngest player in the draft I believe. I was one of his biggest proponents pre-draft. 4 things have always stood out. 1. Shooting form 2. He was injured his freshman year and was forced to use his offhand a lot, and did so successfully. Advanced ball handling and a pretty refined step back game. 3. Effective cutting and finishing. 4. A tank going to the rim and in transition. I got really drunk the night of the draft and I literally remember screaming at the TV in front of my wife around picks10-18 to go get him. I don’t think he is pouty, so much as that he is an introvert. I tend to think he has as highest potential has any player on our roster. And I firmly believe that he would’ve been the number one draft pick in 2024.
A good sign he is being coached and is coachable. Based on what we’ve seen, he could easily get 40 a night in the g-league. So I’m almost more thrilled with his super efficient 28, 8, and 5 because it shows he’s being coached.
I flipped over to the Viper's last loss to the Osceola Magic (127-143). What I saw of Whitmore was less than impressive. He's scored his buckets, but his overall liabilities on defense were readily apparent (especially misjudging court spacing and closing out on shooters). He needs a lot of G-league minutes to get up to speed and improve his conditioning and consistency. While many fans would like to see him in Rocket Red, let's check back in after 20 or 30 Viper games. He'll speed up his pro-development if he dials in and utilizes this time well.
Better than if he isn't putting up numbers in the g-league. The three point line is the same distance as the big league and he's shooting 47.6% on 10.5 attempts per game. That's really good.
Clearly way too good for the G League. No reason he shouldn’t be in the rotation right now getting reps and development, especially when Amen is out.
There has to be a vast difference because nobody is replicating the same numbers in the big league, not close.
You could take it that way or you could say he didn't appreciate Queen showboating and let him know it. Kinda like a brushback pitch in baseball .... don't flip your bat at me b!tch, I'll give you some chin music. Respect is a two way street. I don't want dudes who aren't pissed off by losing either.
I think most of the problem was probably Queen, Howard, and the others were damn-near scoring at will on the Vipers combined with the fact at the end Queen did a dance routine (which he seems to do since college) after the bucket. That pissed Cam off enough to dribble one off his head. lol. I think Ime would quietly approve. Was it necessary? No. But was it necessary? Yeah. Cam's 3 point shooting is still bewildering to me. He basically sucked at it until the G-League. Now he's Steph. Still nailing them, and the shots look sweet. He's also taking them from deep sometimes - like 2-3 feet behind the 3 point line. I hope this is some miraculous improvement. The second most impressive thing has been the difficulty of passes he's attempting. We'll see if any of that translates to the NBA. On a side note, these last couple of games have been on ESPN+. I'm not paying for that mess to watch some trash G-League ball. Just letting you know, NBA.
Did I miss something more than him just doing the arm thing down court after hitting a 3? That's hardly a taunt...
