H is being paid to do so? There reports that they were paying young Jews $250 to attend a recent pro Israel rally in Washington DC.
https://www.politico.com/news/2023/...alled Democratic, direct knowledge of the call. Dem offered $20 million to run against Rashida Tlaib. Disgusting, but another example of how our government has been hijacked by the rich through the GOP S.Ct and the Citizens United S.Ct case. The 9 largest states have 50% of the voters with only 18 Senators, which control also the S.Ct. The other 50% of the voters have 82 Senators. US "democracy" by designation is a joke.
If only Israel would care to make public the details of the charges, convictions, and sentences of these imprisoned women and children. But that would only be reserved for people who actually have civil rights. Not Palestinians living under Israeli occupation.
https://www.csis.org/analysis/gaza-why-war-wont-end … There is also no clear area where either set of Israel’s Palestinians can go. Egypt can accept some refugees that need urgent medical case, but no neighboring power—Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, or Syria—seems likely to accept large number of Palestinians from Gaza or the West Bank or to be able to include them in its political system or development plans. All of the neighboring Arab states face severe political and economic strains in meeting the demands of their existing populations. Lebanon and Jordan have problems dealing with their current population of Palestinians. Syria is still at war, and anyone who talks blithely about relocating major numbers of Gazans into Egypt has probably never spent a day in the Sinai. … If there is a lasting answer to real stability in Gaza, and any prelude to a broader Israeli-Palestinian peace, however, it lies in finding some realistic plan that can offer Gazans the incentive to remain at peace and offer the Israelis some promise of Gazan stability and lasting security. At present, even the groundwork in exploring such options seems to be missing, and the focus on humanitarian aid is one that temporarily reduces suffering but does not shape a better future. In short, the real issue now is not how this war will end, but why it won’t. Escalating to nowhere is not a strategy—it is a disaster.
Right - so the women and children from Palestine that are being returned tried to kill Israeli’s? They have been tried and convicted, no?
And what is the relevance of this to the rights of Palestinians in East Jerusalem and West Bank under Israeli military occupation?
No one should really take a tweet at face value, but people continue to do so. The NYT doesn't have all the details, but it provides much better information. Given that, one can easily see why that tweet shouldn't have been taken at face value. Don't take tweet at face value. Don't. But of course y'all will continue to do so. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/1...risoners-who-are-being-considered-for-release The Israeli government’s list contains 300 names — all people 18 years old and younger or women — and it was not immediately known who would be among the 150 to be released. The list was published in part to give Israeli individuals or groups the opportunity to file objections to the country’s Supreme Court to halt the release of any prisoner. All the names on the list were described as “security prisoners,” or people who had been arrested in connection with politically motivated crimes. The offenses listed include supporting terrorism, acts of violence and throwing stones. There are several charges of attempted murder. Most of those listed had not been convicted on the charges. There were 32 women and girls listed, including two 18-year-olds and a 15-year-old. Of the boys, 144 are 18 years old and 123 are between 14 and 17. All of their cases predate the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, but the vast majority occurred within the last two years. Most of the accused were listed as living in the West Bank; 76 came from East Jerusalem and five from Gaza, according to the data. None was listed as living in Israel or having Israeli citizenship. Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Authority’s Commission for Prisoners’ Affairs, said in a phone interview that though he was not personally involved in the negotiations, his understanding was that people who had spent the most time in prison would be prioritized for release. The earliest arrests on the list date back to 2015.
I hope this holds up. Releasing 50 Israeli women and children in exchange for 150-300 Palestinian women and children prisoners is amazing, considering that Israel swapped more than 1000 Palestinian prisoners for 1 Israeli soldier in 2011.
80% of the Palestinians were forced out of Israel 60ish years ago. There were some Palestinians not forced out. Those Palestinians were under military control until the late 1960’s when they were granted Israeli citizenship. Most Palestinians living in Israel do not refer to themselves as Israeli - but as Palestinians. The overwhelming majority of Palestinians live in the occupied territories, vastly more than live in Israel. Even with Palestinians have an extremely high birth rate, they only make up like 20% of Israel. There are so alien Palestinians living in Israel but they don’t have the right to vote. In the occupied territory are like 5.5 million Palestinians living under apartheid.
This is a primer for the male hostages and prisoners swap. I doubt terms will be nearly as favorable for the men swap.
What I find interesting is that a lot of Arab Muslims do not understand why the West - especially the USA doesn’t side with them. They view Christians as an ally against Jews in Israel. There is just a really big cultural difference between Secular Westerners and actively practicing Muslims in the Middle East. What gets lost a lot of times is that Muslims in the Middle East are not monolithic- there are actually a lot of Arabs that care little for religion.
