I'd jump at Lavine, if you can get a fringe all star for a bench quality player, that's a massive win. The Bulls wouldn't do it though
FVV has had the same bad stretch of games which is why we lost. 8/27 to Jalen's 9/25 against the Lakers and Warriors. Our backcourt essentially went 17/52 for a cool 33% from the field. If either of Jalen or Fred shoots better we win both games. Difference is Fred brings something else in terms of assists.
I feel like by you're 3rd year, you have either arrived or you haven't. I know there are always chances of late bloomers, but more often than not by year 3 what you see is what you got. If a player is already great by year 3, there is a chance he can get even greater, but if he's meh by year 3, he's going to be meh for his career. Jalen is not a superstar and he won't develop into one by now either. Non-superstars are not untouchable. I would not be sad to see him traded.
I agree with this although I’m still holding out hope for a Jalen Green redemption arc. But what makes Jalen Green special? What is his elite talent? I struggle to answer that question and this is year 3. With Sengun we could see he had the potential to be an elite playmaking big in his first year. With Tari, we saw he had high defensive IQ in his first year. Jalen Green is supposed to be an elite 3 level scorer, but he’s nowhere near close to that in year 3.
Sure some people are a bit too down on him, but he is projecting out to be a streaky scorer with below average handles for a SG. I think he has the potential to improve his shooting, but it's rare to see a player dramatically improve their handles which is his biggest limiting factor IMO.
I know the math on this trade would be complex but I wouldn’t mind trading him to the Hornets for: Hornets: Green, Jabari, Amen, 3 First Rockets: Ball I know Charlotte wouldn’t even take this deal tho
Exactly, but if you tell this to Jalen Green fans, they'll just make an excuse for him. The one they love to goto right now is blaming it on Silas. They conveniently forget all our other young guys played under Silas too, INCLUDING Sengun.
No offence intended, but that really does look like the dumbest trade proposal I've seen in a long time! Trade our last top 3 picks plus 3 more firsts for a guy who plays the same position as a free agent we just maxxed, and who requires us to give less of the ball to our players who looks to be breaking out?? Wow... On Green: just chill. So far it doesn't look like he has responded well to structure (from a bball point of view). Looking at the other SGs or SFs in the league, there doesn't appear to be a realistically available player who would be an upgrade (on our chances to win more games this year). Given that we already have both of Amen and Whitmore as young (highly) talented guards, there also feels like there would be very low reward for bringing in a young talented guard for Green. Standing pat is probably the best move (currently). Re-assess closer to the deadline, or see what we can get around draft time? A mid-first might be available then? As the weeks roll on, perhaps give more shots elsewhere if Green doesn't start to come around.
Ime needs to run more pnr's with Jalen and Sengun. Sengun is what is getting FVV all these gawdy asst numbers. Jalen needs an anchor like sengun right now to excel and get his shot off because his bag is so slim. I think FVV can run more with the bench because his handle is better and knows his spots more than Jalen. If Ime used Jalen with sengun as much as he does with FVV we wouldn't be having so many threads about trading Jalen. Jalen actually makes Sengun better too, because even though Jalen is not playing well. they still respect his athleticism freeing up sengun for even more space when Jalen passes. Jalen still has gravity that FVV does not. I think half of sengun's posters were off Jalen's passes because the big was helping on Jalen too much. The jalen and sengun pnr was electric last year. I think Ime is forcing Jalen to figure it out now alone on the court as development. I think Ime knows the jalen/Sengun pnr has the potential to be devastating in the future.
I disagree. FVV gives the starting lineup PG stability and leadership. Moving him to the bench so Green can play pick n roll basketball would be detrimental to the overall team and Sengun’s all-star caliber year thus far. If Green is who we thought he was when he was drafted, he would not need Sengun as an anchor. Green was supposed to be the offense’s anchor, a scoring threat that attracts double-teams so he could get other guys open, getting his assists by creating easy shots for them. We don’t have a play calling/system issue with Green. It’s a lack of talent issue.
no. I'm not saying move FVV to the bench. I'm saying split the times you run PnR's with sengun between FVV and Jalen. Ime has FVV and Sengun almost exclusively running the PnR; Ime even mirrors their minutes together. instead of running the 2nd unit with Jalen do that with FVV. Let Jalen come back in off the bench with sengun. or let Jalen and Bari run some PnR's. let Bari work on that elbow turn around.
Agreed. FVV has a game last night that we’d all call disappointing…and yet he still had 14 assists and 0 turnovers. Yeah that’s definitely steady. He’s a huge reason why this team is a ton better this season.
Honestly, I have no idea if Green is going to "come around." I was not high on the pick and have never been a fan. Seems like a weird dude. Besides freakish athleticism, I have never seen the unlimited basketball talent that others see. If there was trade interest and I could improve the team, I would move him. That would pretty much be true of any player. The coach is a "real" coach, and he has a "system" in mind. Movement in the starting lineup will tell us a lot.
I understand what you are saying - but let’s look at the Warriors game because that is the last one. Green was 6 for 15 from the floor for 16 points. He only went to the line twice. That isn’t efficient and that isn’t good enough. Someone taking 15 shots needs to go to the line more than twice and should shoot better than 40% from the floor. Players like Harden, Wade, Spreewell, Allen and most all star shooting guards find ways to get points when their shot isn’t falling or hit the boards or get assists. At this point Green doesn’t do that. I think he can do it and I actually think he will do that - but he hasn’t yet and until he does, there is some doubt. Yes - I know he is being asked to play very different and on both sides of the floor and that is a valid excuse for him struggling some.
The only thing that makes me still have hope for Jalen is looking at Jamal Murrays first 3 or 4 years in the NBA. All of a sudden he just started understanding how to shoot. He was really young when he started too.
Clutchfans informed me after the first few games that FVV was the worst FA signing in Rockets history... so perhaps we should give JG a bit more time.
All i know is when Silas stuck Jalen in the corner in an impossible position and had him doubting himself for half the season he fought his way out of that corner and started to play well when he figured it out. He will do it again with Ime and Ime is a far superior coach. All this whining will be in vain. Get your rocks off now. Ime holding Jalen accountable when he isnt playing winning basketball is good for all rockets fans. Sengun got a head start because he requested Silas to bully him, lol
