The savior complex from this group is truly something. Frankly, its infected much of the newer tech industry. You see this in people like Elon Musk and SBF. They all think that they alone will somehow save the world when the reality is that none of these people are capable of doing anything close to that. They're developing new technologies but their energy should be focused on working with governments to create regulations that balance innovation and safety as well as just being a little thoughtful in how they design things.

Instead, the incessant savior complex has become a means to rationalize every dumb and moronic instinct because these people think that they're so special. And as consumers, we give way too much praise to these people which only feeds the ego and narcissism that has become so core to their decision making.

You would be the guy criticizing Einstein for his fears on the potential idea of nuclear fission. Meanwhile, Altman is over here doing the equivalency of splitting the atom for the first time.

The fear isn't so much of a dystopian Skynet self-aware sentient AI, but a government like China or Russia using it against its enemies. Meanwhile you're over here 'but trust the government'. No, I do not trust the world governments to do the right thing. We should be slow rolling this so we can build defenses against powerful AI's.

Einstein wasn't going around proclaiming that he was the savior for humanity. He doesn't resemble SBF or Elon in any way. This isn't a criticism of intelligence or innovation. Its a criticism of the narcissisms and ego that we have enabled among this class of innovators.

When you believe that you alone are the savior for the world, it means you have no guardrails and it means that you have absolute justification for everything you do. You can be innovative while still being grounded, humble and thoughtful.

Go back and look at your comparisons. One of them is going to jail for decades, if not life (SBF is a sociopath criminal, not a save-the-world savior) . The other is doing exactly what you suggested, which is to get governments involved to create safety regulations.
Objective, I think not. I am not sure why SBF is even in this conversation.

Musk advocates for open source, which I full agree. I agree he does have an obnoxious savior complex, but that criticism isn't valid here. Nor do I think he will fully open source xAI's work. Nobody will.

Speaking of Elon, he set up the org structure that pundits now are scratching their heads over.

Thanks for saving us all before you ruin us with your own investor friendly AI, Elon :D

I'm surprised the media hasn't run around this like piranhas because she's been saying it for at least a couple of months now. I remember seeing it in geek forums/circles on the Internet back in September or October and thinking it would blow up, but ... haven't heard much about it. Then again, I recall it happening when they were kids or something - don't remember the details - so maybe that's why.
