Blue Beetle is currently projected to have one of the worst opening weekends ever in the DC Extended Universe's history. According to Boxoffice Pro, the upcoming superhero film is tracking to earn between $12 million and $17 million at the domestic box office. If Blue Beetle ends up opening in that range, it will be the worst opening weekend for a DCEU film since Wonder Woman 1984 ($16.7M), which was jointly released in theaters and on HBO Max. Boxoffice Pro also predicts that Blue Beetle will earn only $55 million domestically during its theatrical run, less than half of what The Flash has currently grossed in North America. lawd have mercy…and this sh*t has a budget of 120 mil not including advertising and promotion man, just throw the whole DCEU away and just stop…this is past the point of embarrassing now nobody wants to see the garbage tier films they keep digging out from deep within their butt cheeks at this point, just make standalone rated R superhero films…that 2019 Joker movie grossed over a bil on a budget of just 70 mil…but when it’s Joker within the DCEU, we get that Jared Leto garbage ass Joker lemme see rated R Superman punching somebody’s head off in a standalone film with no association to any extender universe…I’d actually go to the theater for that
This was a great movie. The problem is the Superhero fatigue all of us are experiencing. Sucks that this one will fall victim to that, as it did feel fresh and original. Main character and his family were charming, and the story had tons of heart. Marvel needs to STOP with the quantity vs quality model they have right now.
Enjoyed this more than most of the DC movies lately. Had a few very cringy moments reminiscent of Princess Leia going Mary Poppins in one of the latest Star Wars movies.
Had Marvel released this movie 4 years ago it would have made 600-800 million and guaranteed 2 sequels. Being released by DC in 2023, this had no chance whatsoever. Marvel spoiled their own program with gross content saturation. DC on top of the superhero fatigue, has no established continuity. Just a mishmash of mediocre movies with actual good movies (Batman and Joker) not even connected.
This version of Blue Beetle has been around 25yrs and he is the 3rd person to carry the mantle of Blue Beetle. They did a good origin of this version in Young Justice season 2
This was added to HBO Max today so i'm watching it in the background while doing other things. This feels a whole like some DC executive said, "Lets do a hispanic Black Panther, for that sweet hispanic ethnic money and street cred, like Marvel got." I feel pandered to, and Im not even hispanic. It is all steriotypes and ethnic tropes, but when they use actual Spanish, it was all food words, so white people might understand. It feels felt Mex-sploitation and seems extremely formulaic and derivative. George Lopez plays a cartoon character.
C'mon. It had George Lopez in it. You know it was going to be full of stereotypes and ethnic humor. That, and it's Blue Beetle. The superhero probably 99% of the population never knew existed. lol.
Yeah, its kind of geared to 18-25 demo. Not straight up childrens themes, but a lot of stuff about the value of family, stuff like that. That kind of stuff normally doesn't detract for me. Also, while i didnt really like it, there were a couple of funny / entertaning aspects Spoiler like the granny who turned out to basically be a Sandanista and the CGI was flashy, but there were also a bunch of goofy jokes about getting kicked in the 'chorizo', etc. The superhero dynamic really most closely reminds me of the Iron Man/Jarvis relationship in Marvel, in the way that its the guy and his talking magic suit that work together, and it isn't a flattering comparison for the DC film, at all.
