Oh, wrong I like Jalen - just think he is not a superstar. Love Sengun - worried about his D, glad that has proven to not be an issue. Players I got right? Gonna stick to the role players that I have loved over the years. Off the top of my head. Scola, Battier, Sura, Elie, Horry, Eason, KJM, EGO, Olynyk, Tucker, DMO The list goes on and on, been a fan for more than 50 years.....so there are a lot. Now stop focusing on ME as a poster, and just enjoy Cam Whitmore as he grows into a very good potential star player. DD
He adds an element the rest of the guys don't have - and it gives us even more weapons on both ends. DD
I would rather have Cam Whitmore play in the Euro League instead of the D League. Daishen Nix was almost the D League MVP. The Competition seems Fake.
Tari Eason I think is the Small Ball Power Forward, Jabari Smith, Jeff Green as Center Cam Whitmore maybe is a Small Forward, I need to see him more defensively, does he have lateral quickness.
lol. Nix and Trevelin Queen's numbers are what made me put the brakes on trying to translate what's being seen in the G-League to the NBA. Those dudes were all-world and were fighting for MVP of the G-League. Even right now, people are talking about Cam's numbers down there, but check out Jermaine Samuels' and Darius Days' numbers down there. Those dudes are balling. All 3 of them are putting up 15-20 shots per game, too. Cam was never much of a 3-point shooter even from the college 3, he didn't shoot well from 3 in the NBA pre-season, and shot poorly in the regular season from the NBA 3. But ... send his butt down to the G-League for 3 games and he looks like he's Curry. I don't know if he magically learned to be a marksman in 3 games, if it's just them leaving him wide open, just getting hot for the first 3 games, or some combination all three of those things. He's wide open a lot on 3's from the games I watched, but still. Maybe there'll be a reversion to his lifetime mean or maybe he learned how to shoot 3's in a few days. I don't think I can watch ESPN+ because I may need a subscription, but in his first 2 games, he did show the explosiveness everybody knew he had, but was still making some bad defensive or, in general, basketball decisions. His butt would be glued to the bench if Ime saw some of that stuff happen in the NBA. I hope his 3-point shooting really has improved to at least 36-38%, though.
True, huge talent difference from the G League to the NBA. I was looking at the rosters most teams don't even have a single guy over 6'8 6'9. Cam's 3 point shooting for 3 games is a nice sign since it's still a pro league but the defensive intensity must be so different with not many players closing out on the 3 point level. I'm excited to see Cam being called up, he is exciting, explosive and strong. Love the way he bullies people and we need that.
I think he's probably being called back up because RGV doesn't play for another week. May as well practice with the big team instead. We'll see if he goes back. You're generally right about the defense level from what I've seen watching the past few years. It's not at the same level as the NBA. Many of the drives he was getting uncontested were drives that would be met by a defender at the rim or at least defended (just ask Jalen). In the G-League, a lot of them were pretty much a clear lane. But even then, Cam's shooting streak from 3 is really good for him. I hope that's a good indicator that somehow he's magically improved his 3, but like everything else - I'll wait until he gets back to the NBA to see what's really going on.
At some point the Rockets will hit a rough patch and Clamor for Cam 'More will reach a cacaphonous crescendo.
His athletic testing (shuttle times) were super impressive. The quickness is there. Anticipation??? That's the big question.
I love his size. The guy is a load and a steal when he fell to 20 in the draft. Great potential. I’m glad he was getting good minutes with the Vipers, but happier to bring him back for the road trip.
