John Carpenter easily but then again, I favor his type of movies way more than the types of movies that John Hughes made.
IMO, John Hughes had the better body of work...BUT...John Carpenter made the second best movie ever made...
i watched that movie last year for the first time since the 80's and i really re-enjoyed it. such a fun movie. carpenter also composed the music for his films. how many directors can say they did that. also, i had to look it up, but i always thought better off dead was a john hughes movie, but its not! of all the 80's teen rom-coms that one is my favorite.
This is probably the correct answer. They are both so good...but in different ways. I think the appreciation and recognition for John Carpenter has grown over time. btw...the best movie ever made...The Shawshank Redemption.
I saw this a few years ago, which is one of Carpenter's "duds" and I enjoyed it imensely. Part of the problem with John Carpenter movies, is I've seen most of them so many times that they've lost some of the excitement. This kind of reminded me how fun some of the "prime Carpenter" era films were the first time around. Carpenter films always felt like they were done on the cheap, but that somehow kind of added to the allure. In terms of all the movie studio shine and polish, John Hughes films are on an entirely different planet than John Carpenter films.
Correct. I referenced BTILC as the second best movie...wanted to give some context as to what number one was. That's all.
Even though I can't tell most Halloween movies from another, I can't imagine my childhood without John Carpenter movies. I did check out IMDB and saw some of Hughes' writing credits. Vacation... Uncle Buck... Home Alone... Mr. Mom... Ferriss Bueller... Weird Science. Pretty solid resume. I'm voting Carpenter, but I've got no issue with anyone that votes Hughes.
