It is funny to see how many players we have with quick hands on defense. We really are going to be a problem. Sengun is really not a bad defender. He is just different from what you expect from a center. He is not the jump high wall around the basket. He has lapses. But he is smart and he has really quick hands.
Denver could have inbounded it to a guy who was not coming off a screen or with a guy close or in front of him. It was lackadaisical.......You have to look at Josh Giddey throwing alley oops while inbounding. Their loss.
Don’t wanna jinx it but Sengun shooting the one legged shot well from almost any angle is very unexpected. Also the quick push shot, like a tear drop for a center.
Sengun was incredible- plain and simple. He’s becoming the most consistent player on this roster and has really put in the work defensively. Can’t ask for more or him. I think Denver would have been able to punish Sengun playing drop coverage a bit more with Murray but I assume we played Sengun’s like that exactly because we wanted to make their guards shoot outside shots or try to turn a corner. Outside of Murray, Denver is missing another guard who can make defenses pay for trailing the shooter off a Jokic screen. Props to Udoka and Sengun for being able to take advantage of that. It’s AMAZING how much better we are with more consistent effort and execution. Best of all - we are good because no one person is dominating- everyone is just competing and executing for each other. Bravo, team!
Are you dense or are you purposefully rewriting history? Aaah, I guess I just imagined how Bruno started the first 2 games of regular season when Silas proclaimed Bruno the starter for the KPJ lob threat. If not for Bruno hurting his knee in the Grizzlies game (2nd game of the season) who knows how long Silas would have kept Sengun coming off the bench? Sure, by the time Bruno came back it was obvious that Sengun was the only real starter but if not for that it is highly possible he would have had Bruno starting the entire season. Heck, I even remember clueless fans clamoring for Bruno to start from the time he came back until the time Bruno was traded.
I looked back on it Bruno played well his first game. Had positive BP of 16, Sengun had - 7. Plus Minus Bruno had - 1 and Sengun was - 7. https://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/202210190ATL.html Like I said it was based on their SL play where Bruno played great and Sengun didn't. You can't blame coach for playing guys who they thought would produce. It's the same approach Uduka doing now. Again why is this a big deal? Even Sengun had no problem with it, if you are team based mindset it doesn't matter who starts. Ginobili 2nd best player in Spurs dynasty he had no issues coming off the bench.
Aahh, I guess Sil@ss did bench Sengun, huh? Regarding not being able to blame Sil@ss: I absolutely can. And I will. Because Sil@ss was the worst Rockets coach in history. He hated Sengun and derided our most talented player for the entirety of his awful coaching regime. That says a lot for a team that hired Kevin McHale to coach. As far as Ginobili goes, he was talented no doubt. Yet, I never saw Pops bench Duncan for some scrub because of claims Duncan couldn't jump outta of the gym. No, instead, as the talented coach Pops is, he had him starting almost his entire career. And Sengun is more Duncan than Ginobili.
By this logic, a coach could have played Billy Paultz over Hakeem because they thought the Whopper would produce, and we "can't blame them" for the decision. Hilarious.
That’s literally his job, to identify talent and put players in a position to succeed. How ****ing stupid do you have to be about basketball to think Bruno Fernando is a better player? He is an awful coach. That entire coaching staff made it very clear they didn’t think Sengun was very good and they minimized him so they could give more attention to guys like KPJ. Silas doesn’t deserve to be defended, he deserves to be out of the NBA entirely.
Sengun's a monster already. His one legged shot and three point jumper are only going to get more consistent from here on out. Once those start being go to options there is nothing the defense can do.
Starting doesn't always mean you are the better player. You realize Harden came off the bench to start his career? He was the 3rd pick so obv OKC thought he was the better player than the role player he came off the bench for. Again this is very US, very ME style basketball. Real winners don't care whether they start or come off the bench ask Manu Ginobili. I can't find it but I remember Sengun saying it was OK cuz he was better on offense, Bruno was better defensively. Fans literally getting mad on his behalf wtf.
