With all the positives out there, I'd like to focus on Hutchinson for a moment. He has the size and showed the physical tools and mental toughness to not be brought down when we needed a 1st Down. Perhaps we could find a place for him in the red zone offense.

As much as I love Stroud's performance and saving us, our defense was HORRIBLE! What the hell is happening?

Injuries and lack of depth. We were playing a 3rd string safety and Anderson got hobbled. Some people don’t realize how much attention other teams have to double team Anderson. Our defensive tackle position is also decimated with injuries.

We're now 0-4 in Liberty White; 3-0 in Blue and 1-0 in Red.

    What CJ Stroud accomplished Sunday:

His 147.8 passer rating is the highest single-game passer rating by a rookie quarterback (minimum 30 attempts) in NFL history.

His 470 passing yards are the most passing yards by a rookie in a game in NFL history.

Became the youngest player ever with at least 450 passing yards in a game.

Became just sixth player in NFL history to record at least 450 passing yards and five touchdown passes with no interceptions in a game.

Someone else already said it, but it is amazing the numbers CJ put up considering how pedestrian his first half looked. There were several deep balls that he overthrew that I thought "Man, that was very un-CJ like". If he hits those, he may have gone over 500 yards. Or maybe he has much less because then the team isn't playing from behind. Who knows. But I have noticed a bit of a trend that CJ sometimes takes a few drives to kind of get into his groove. All the more reason for Slowik to stop pushing the run game and just let Stroud sling it. He'll eventually get things going and put the offense on his shoulders.

Did anyone in the post-game interviews address that one play where Singletary pitched it to Stroud who ran for like 6 yards? Was that really the play design or did the players just get creative? I'm not sure I like CJ doing those types of plays considering how valuable his arm is and that he's had a few games this season where he's been banged up a bit.

I suspect someone thought of the play ahead of time since CJ was in position for the toss and Singletary looked to toss. He wouldn't normally trail the play. Now whether that was the OC or Singletary and Stroud adjusting would be interesting to know.

No idea where it originated, but it's been around on the internet forever. Whenever I hear the name Dan Fouts, the first thing I think of is "I was a quarterback"

Also, "jacking off like a redassed monkey watching the banana channel" is a line I don't use enough in conversation

Does anybody know where I can find a clip of the game winning TD with the Vandermeer call?

Anyone who uses the NFL as a basis for highlights got gypped on that play. They had a really bad day. Everyone reacting for the NFL was saying WTF? when they skipped the game winning TD.

I wonder how many people turned off their TV and quit watching the game, or how many people in the stadium left before our miraculous comeback drive,

    Haha, snooze you lose.

I disagree. You don't want to become one dimensional like that especially with a young QB who is still developing and playing behind an OL that still needs to add more pieces. You could end up with CJ getting injured or worse because the opposing team won't have to worry about getting burned by the run and will simply tee off on your QB. I can see what Slowik is trying to do here and I would recommend backing off and giving him, CJ and the rest of the team space to grow because to consistently win they will need to have a more balanced offensive attack.

I admit I took an old man break after the Bucs score and failed to make it back before The March. Fortunately, they still had the plays available and were nor cancelled yet.

I like the way Slowik is putting the play action on film. If they sell out against the pass, the solution is simply to make the handoff. Until then, the line has to hold half a second to contain the run. It's not much, but enough to create separation to the middle routes.

Exactly this. Give them a LOT of credit, because it doesn't happen without the offensive line giving Stroud a gorgeous pocket to step into. They gave him the time he needed to eat that defense alive.

This is why it is the ultimate team game. When one part isn't functioning, the team fails. Too bad the Texans let the infamous BOB run the team to the ground.

I saw both schematic help using play action and one on one wins. A nuanced twist using the play action threat rather than the basic run and sweeps to buy time.

It became a thing of beauty in the second half.

It's true, ideally you would love to have any type of run game to balance...but with the current personnel the Texans have, that's not going to fly if you want to win some games this year. Maybe Slowik can come up with better run schemes because running down the fcking middle isn't working.

Maybe Texans should focus on getting a good back to support Stroud next year, and upgrade the run block.
