No ****. I don’t think any defensive coordinator could even fathom that precise and lengthy of a throw could even be made with that cover 2. The degree of difficulty/catch percentage (if there ever was such a metric) had to have been less than 10 percent…. Maybe even lower given that no normal QB can throw a ball from the pocket ~ 50 yards (back of napkin Pythagorean theorem right there) on a line with accuracy.
and always will be, even the nba which is the most advanced league by far you still have stuff like ayton/bagley over doncic
It has… but the QB is now even MORE important (and getting paid a larger percentage of the cap) to a team’s long term success than ever before. Additionally, college sports have become even more prevalent in terms of showcasing skill players. No longer will QB prospects in middling prospects be ignored, nor will QB prospects who put up huge numbers against awful competition be glorified. Teams will draft guys like Mayfield #1 overall nowadays, whereas in previous eras he would have been a 3rd round pick at best. Johnnie Manziel was a freakin first round pick… And after all of that… there’s still so much more that goes into it when it comes to the right coaches, systems, o-line… and the ability for the brain to process line reads, audibles, route adjustments…. And after all that, you still have to be able to stand tall in the pocket, elude pressure, and have the arm strength and command to make perfect passes.
Congrats, y'all! Was seriously hilarious end-of-game for me. Took geriatric dog -- I have to go now, human -- out for her walk and just watched this thread, going from "oh nooes!" "we are cursed" to celebrating the greatness that is rookie CJ. Pretty funny. I can't wait to watch the long-form highlights now. If only I could interweave this thread as a chiron, haha.
I think the really absurd thing is that realistically Stroud could have been even better. He just barely missed a few throws that would have been house calls. Having a rookie that is this good this soon is amazing. No excuses needed.
i also think about the 4th down TD. Slowik is running twice and only giving CJ one time to pass before the kicker is coming in. no kicker meant CJ got a couple more downs after Slowik got finished bullshitting. man get well soon kai, but I dont want no more kickers on the team just so we can see CJ sling it.
