They need some scoring off the bench, regardless of position. Not really concerned about blocks. Defense isn’t about block shots and they are already progressing to being a top 15 defense with the team they have now. Rebounding would be fine if we can get our perimeter defense functioning properly. We will miss Amen a lot more than people think. HIs defense and rebounding were already outstanding.
If Memphis continues to sh*t the bed, Stone should jump in with a surprise Godfather offer for JJJ. Just a giant pile of assets that's hard to refuse. Their choice of Jabari or Tari Cam Whitmore Uncle Jeff Multiple first round picks Aside from being able to get a young established superstar/borderline superstar like Luka or Tatum, which isn't going to happen, I can't think of any better player to spend our assets on. They probably still don't do it, but it's worth a shot.
Dude said a FRP for Caruso. He lost me there. Our FRP are lottery bound. Caruso isn’t a needle mover. A lottery pick for a backup guard who doesn’t specialize in one particular area isn’t worth it. Seth curry is buried on the bench. He shouldn’t cost a FRP.
Jabari Smith+ Jalen Green+Jock Landale+Oladipo+Jeff Green +Nets 2024 First and Houston 2027 First for Myles Turner and Tyrese Halliburton. Sengun Turner Brooks/Tari FVV/Cam W Halliburton/Thompson
Not advocating trading a lotto pick for Caruso but Caruso is an elite defensive pg so I'd say that's a specialization... Also this year's draft is the weakest in maybe 5+ years [I didn't see the trade proposal either btw]
We dont need defense off the bench, we need scoring. Holiday and Hinton are actually solid on defense even Amen was solid ondefense
Don't disagree with that. I think we could fill a much bigger hole than backup PG with the Nets pick. I just think Caruso is a solid player
Trade for Capela to give you the defense and rebounding you need with the starters and let Sengun pound it with the bench unit. Right now the pieces we have don't compliment each other.
On the Sengun and Claxton thought experiment. Sengun is still on that sweet rookie deal, he's 3.5 mil. For context he's the 10th highest paid guy on our team. Jalen makes 4x more, Jabari makes 3x more. Amen, Landale, Tate, all make more than Al-p currently. Al-p and Tari, being mid-rounders, are walking definitions overplaying their current contracts for us. I'm not saying we're overpaying our other guys, I'm just emphasizing Alp/Tari are really giving this org a true bang for their buck. Claxton while not expensive, is 8mil and then UFA next year. If you go and get Claxton, have to be confident you can sign him long term, a guy with no history with your team. To match Claxton's salary, you have to throw in another Rockets contract for Claxton. Then is Nets GM going to be cute and also ask for one of their picks back? With my homer glasses off, this kind of deals is not good for us. With how well Sengun has playing, his league stock is rising, if rockets GM plan to trade Sengun, I'd extend him first for longer years, then you can maybe get someone better than Claxton. Doing it now is selling too early. Notes: Nets is in a bit of weird state: Neither Ben Simmons and Claxton can stretch. There was spacing concerns at the start of season. Claxton is injured right now (ankle), Vaughn has Simmons going as a guard and they have Finney Smith as Center. Cam Thomas with his hot shooting gets a deserving starter nod. Me mentioning this is trying to see if maybe Claxton is showing signs of being expendable and thus Net's asking price will come down. On Fit Rockets: both Sengun and Jabari haven't shown to the ability stretch. That won't be solved when you get Claxton (defensive rim big) here. What you really need is Jabari grow and fulfill some of his draft projections, or get someone who can to fit around Sengun (or Claxton... whomever our C is). If you go aroud all 30 NBA teams, the majority of the starting C's do not stretch, it's forwards who might. Spacing is nice, but team is judged relative to their peers. It's not the end-all-be-all, because other teams you face also has the same disadvantage. A weakness is a only real weakness if its relatively worse than your opponent. If spacing is super important to your team's specific identity; it's much easier to find a guard/forward who can space before trying to replace your center.
Turner like player not Turner himself don’t want a big named player. Need a role player that does a lot of the same things.
"Knocks down threes and plays good-to-great defense at 6'10" and above" is already a rare archetype, and very valuable in today's pace-and-space league. It's why Jabari was rated so highly as a prospect even though he doesn't have elite potential as an offensive engine. Sadly neither the shooting nor the defense has lived up to expectations so far, but scouts saw high potential in both areas. Off the top of my head, I can think of: Embiid JJJ Brook Lopez (we know how that worked out for us) Myles Turner Even rarer if you want a guy who can realistically play a lot of power forward and do weakside shotblocking. Then it's pretty much just JJJ. So unless we can get one of those guys, it probably makes sense to just hang onto Jabari for now and see if he can develop into a guy who fits in that group.
Sadly Jones is / would have been the fit before he acted out. Not at the same level currently but could/should grow into the role. We have to be able to afford what we build long term or not build it. Development for the sake of development is counterproductive. Sengun is not make less than 4M a year for ever. Other teams poaching our talent because we can’t pay them is silly.
Cam+Brooklyn picks+Houston 2027 FRP for Bridges and Claxton. Sengun/Claxton Smith/Eason Brooks/Tate Bridges/Green FVV/Amen
Back to the Bridges trade suggestions huh? I don't think the organization is ready to give up on Green as a starter yet, and if they were, they'd probably trade him, not bench him. Maybe if you're really convinced you have a future superstar in the fold and that guy ain't Green, you send him out for Bridges instead of a pick or two. I still don't really like going after Bridges though. He's at least a year too old to fit our timeline.
Getting on Youtube and rattling off bad ideas doesn't make you an authority on anything. Amen's hurt, Emergency trade .... then what when he comes back?? First round pick for a backup .....Terrible idea.
Not that exciting of a trade, but let's go get Wiseman from Detroit. Give Jock a little competition, add a true 7-footer to the team for a change. Might not even take two second rounders at this point, might only take one, but what the hell.
