Just throwing this out there. Dude tends to go overboard on some of his takes, but he does seem to have a legit connection/source. He was on the Vazquez trade in 2022 before anyone else and was on the JV trade this summer earlier than basically anybody else. Obviously would take a lot to pull off, but just putting this out there.

His quotes imply that if managing was a 20 hour per week job like in the old days he wouldn't retire.

More and more it sounds like maybe he was pushed out. He sounds bitter.... over a Chandler Rome article? Good riddance. He always b****ed about whatever place he left.

Totally random and wrong thread i know, but in Tokyo watching the Hanshin Tigers vs Orix Buffaloes where Marwin Gonzalez currently plays lol it’s a trip.

The Tigers the other night had absolutely clutch hitting down 2-0 to win it 6-2. Not leaving runners stranded like a team we know :(

That to me would signal a swing away from trying to stay competitive for decades which was Luhow’s edict, to win now. We need to hang on to Brown especially. Cease had a sub 3.00 era in 2022 and has been close to or over 4 every other year. Luis Robert may be better than Chas slightly, but the numbers are pretty close if you projected Chas to the 145 games that Robert played. They have very similar OPS numbers and Chas has much better OBP.
Giving up a 2nd year SS with the defensive chops of Pena and with a great deal of potential at the plate in the trade also seems pretty knee jerk. What do we need Jiminez for, DH and LF? WhiteSox when this trade big time in my opinion.

Cease would be very much similar to picking up a struggling (yet still going to be paid more) Gerrit Cole in 2018 for .75 on the dollar.

It really is startling to look back and see how much talent the Pirates once had as potential starting pitchers. I know everybody claims poor teams can't compete... but poor teams also sometimes mismanage their assets. In fact they probably do that more than they just can't compete because they "don't have money".

He also seems bitter he was expected to put in more than 20 hours a week.

But no clutch hitting today. I'm a curse. When I don't watch, they win. When I watch they lose. Even when they made it 1-0, I went to turn on the lights so I missed their hr. Going to a game 7. Tigers better not follow the path of the Astros by losing game 6 and 7. And speaking of Marwin, he started the rally that eventually put Orix up 2-1.

Would you substitute Brown with Framber? The guy who started the rumor was asked who was involved but he didn't know. Someone else said Chas will like Chicago and he responded I would think Valdez as well. Although not sure why Chicago would take Valdez. Seems like a lateral move compared to Cease and Valdez might make more money than Cease. I guess Framber might be slightly better if he's on his game but perhaps we can say the same for Cease when he's on his game.
Also Robert stop recruiting Rodriguez to Chicago. Might have to recruit him to Houston.

Also that Bonda guy made it seem like he was confirming some other guy who claimed that had sources about Crane might sell the team in the future which is why he's reluctant to spend.

    Why swap Framber for Brown?

Framber already is what we hope Brown becomes.

Prospects are just prospects until they aren't and Brown has only proven that he can go through the league once then do terribly the second time after teams can study him and hit against him multiple times.

    Those pitchers frequently become relievers.

This trade is a short term boost of adrenaline to further open the window wider but it shortens the duration. By subbing Framber for Brown you are undermining that by giving away one of the most important players to winning the next 2 years.

In short, adding Cease and losing Framber does not improve this team enough (or at all?) to justify the expense. Many will argue that it hurts the team with me among them.

Furthermore, Chas is better and cheaper than Jimenez right now. Eloy is a terrible fielder, S L O W, can't stay healthy and by many accounts not good in the clubhouse.

To me this trade would not only be the end of the Golden era, it would be the direct cause.

But it would be nice to have Robert.

Win now then yes keep Framber and hope they can win in the next 2 years before potentially losing Valdez and Cease. The guy I responded to made it seem like we need to keep Brown because of his long term control.

No. I wouldn’t do the trade that way either. I just see this as a knee jerk reaction to make changes just to make changes. To me, Cease and Framber are a wash. If anything, Framber has more of a history of success. Chas and Robert seem to be a wash as well. Pena just completed his 2nd year and Brown his first. Just don’t know why we would be throwing Pena into the deal. We don’t need another DH or a LF in my opinion, certainly not enough to throw Pena in to the deal.

    Knew that was coming

Resign him 2 yrs $14M+ $4M player option w/$1M buyout.

Guarantee $15M for 2 yrs and $6M AAV.

He's older and may like the $4M guarantee as a 37 yr old but very little risk

Edit: that's a bit low based on past contract, performance, and market.

    2 / $17M + $5.5M player option and $1M b/o. $18M guarantee, $7.5 AAV.
