If the GOP cuts SS - sounds like a big class action lawsuit against the USA by it's citizens, right?

I mean we have all been paying into social security for years, that is our money, not the governments - and if they try to cut it, there will be hell to pay, lawsuits out the ass at individual congress people at the government - and it is a severe losing strategy.

It is not an entitlement when you have been paying for it for years.

Debunking the Latest Attack on Social Security

For decades, the right wing has been warning that Social Security is on the verge of going broke and that old people are taking too large a share of the national income and wealth at the expense of the young. The grand old man of this fable was Peter G. Peterson, an investment-banker billionaire and former Nixon Cabinet official, who spent more than half a billion dollars of his fortune to create the Peter G. Peterson Foundation to propagate the myth.

One of Peterson’s most insidious tactics was to try to persuade the young that Social Security would not be there for them when they retired. Therefore, Congress should make it possible for younger people to take the money and run, by moving their Social Security taxes to fund private accounts (that would profit Peterson’s investment-banker chums).

Lately, with Social Security heading for a deficit, we have been getting echoes of the same claims about the old doing too well at the expense of the young.

Would there be any real economic benefits to killing social security or Medicare?

No, but if they did I would assume there would be massive lawsuits to recover all the money folks have paid in for years.......that is our money not the governments.

Old people would die quicker. They are a drain on the economy, so there is that.

I don't think that one can sue the US federal government.

The whole social security "crisis" has been engineered intentionally by the GOP at least as long as Ive been alive, by starving funds from the program.

This has been decades in the making. I'm sure theyve got the whole thing wargamed out.

I think if SS or Medicare were to be axed, you couldn't do it while people are depending on it and have paid into it there entire lives..............I have about 10 years before I retire, and they better not do it anytime soon or give me back all the money I put into with interest.

In reality, I think it's a scare tactic. It would be a death blow to anyone in politics who initiated this in a serious manner, all the retired folks who depend on this would never stand for it.

The promises of the government and our political leaders can be more easily broken when we move away from representative government. One party is sprinting toward that.

If the Rs could get away with it, they would axe the entire safety net and turn back the clock to the 1850s.

The mentality of rich people I know is that no amount is enough. They care about $100. Every $100 they can pay less in taxes and use to buy art or put in a trust fund is worth it at any cost. They would rip apart all federal spending. Kill education. Kill roads. Kill whatever. They see taxes as stealing their money and that they should actually pay less than the average Joe. In fact, they believe they are entitled to money from the gov't more than anyone else. If you ask them why they need billions and not just millions - they will tell you that it's about creating generational wealth. And about having properties all over the world - they need that as they just don't spend time in America. They will tell you they don't live that extravagantly for their status. That buying a first class ticket is the equivalent of someone taking an uber.

They will never get social security benefits. And to them, that's a crime. And so the program should be killed.

I can't tell you how many friends and family members I know who were liberals when they were younger, and now Trump fans today - and I know it's because they want to pay the lowest taxes and will support any cause no matter how extreme if that is the net result.
