Yesterday I was visiting my grandmother in Georgia, and I go to this place called Fuddrucker's.

I have heard of Fuddrucker's before, but I have never eaten there as the closest one to me is about 30 miles. They have this slogan of "The World's Greatest Hamburgers" or something like that. It was not bad, but I think the slogan is hyperbole for sure.

However, I would rank Fuddrucker's in my top 4 hamburger places that I have eaten at all-time. It comes in at a solid #3. Coming in at #4 is Johnny Rockets (ate there twice), and coming in at #2 is Checkers (great place to get clogged arteries or at least it seems that way). But the best hamburgers that I have ever eaten, I feel, has been the ones at Steak and Shake. My God - are those things great! Too bad, the closest one to me is 30 miles.:(

What are some other great hamburger places or restaurants that serve a great hamburger in your mind?

We have a Fuddruckers and Steak and Shake next door to one another here. Never heard of those others.

I like the jalapeno cheeseburgers at Sonic.

If I want a couple of quick burgers, I prefer to go to a little diner here called Jan's House.- burger with pickles, tomatoes, lettuce and lots of mustard. Yum. Guess what's for dinner tonight?!

My fave burgers were at the Ale House in Houston. RIP.

In-n-Out Burger on West Coast is awesome.

In Houston, I like Cahill's on Durham or Christian's U-Totem on Washington and I-10.

    And Whataburger.

I second In-n-Out. The best burger place in America. Sad to say, they have NONE in TEXAS!

    Ground meat is disgusting.

    I spit on your "hamburger".

EDIT - ok, I was just baiting y'all. Throwing grenades, hoping for shrapnel. Then I felt guily.

Still, hamburgers are just bad. A "good" one is still bad 30 minutes later. Your face and hands feels greasy and your stomach has a knot.
There's something wrong with that. Especially with "fries" on top. Good God. Heated grease coagulated in a porus, fiberous, starchy potato. Do you ever feel good after that? Have you tasted "fries" when they are cold?

There has to be a better way.

We don't have a Steak and Shake in Houston, at least I've never heard of it.

I'd have to put Whataburger near the top of the list. It is tough to beat a Whataburger w/ cheese and jalapenos. Tookie's, Fudrucker's, and Chili's have good burgers as well.

I know a lot of people around here like Beck's Prime, but I've never been a fan of it.

I love In-N-Out. I also love Fatburger, and Whataburger. I would put Fudruckers on the list to, but mainly because the fresh baked bun.

P.O.s over here in Cypress makes great burgers. Full of grease ane messy.

Sweet Mesquite makes a mean burger too. Their sourdough buns are the best.

Tookies is way better than your fuddruckers or steak and shake fare. Whataburger is the best national chain burger.

Fuddruckers makes a good burger for a chain.

    Rostnovsky's makes a good burger.

Tookies is good as others have mentioned...they have some great non traditional ways to prepare a burger.

Used to be a couple really good places close to where I live, a place called Charlies (with the slogan over 2 dozen sold) and the late great Mr. Hamburger in Galena Park Tx.

Galena Park refused to allow McDonalds for many years to protect those estimable ladies who fried up the worlds best hamburgers.

    Mmmm

Here are some of my favorites:

    Whataburger
    In N Out
    Fatburger
    Fuddrucker's
    Hut's Hamburgers (Austin)
    Waterloo Ice House (Austin)

I'm not really a fan of Chili's "Big Mouth Burgers" mainly because I like the thin ones better. I would rank Whataburger as good or better than In N Out. I can't wait to finally try White Castle next time I'm in New York.

A website for a Houston-based sports team is discussing burgers and not one of you people has mentioned Princes. Sad.

The Smitty's burger there with avacado and swiss cheese is sooooooo good.

I really liked Beck's Prime when I lived in Houston, though I liked the Steak, or Swordfish Sandwhiches a little better. I grew up on Prince's and this local burger place called Helen's which was actually pretty lousy, but I remember it fondly. The fast food chains are about the same to me. I probably like Whataburger because of the quality of the meat and healthy portions of veggies. When they put on jalapenos they don't mess around.

There are two New Zealand burger joints that I would rate with anyone. One place is called Burger Wisconsin (for some reason). Total decadence. They serve their burgers with all sorts of sauteed onions, cheeses of all types and avacado and bacon. They also serve kumera chips, which is basically a potato simmilar to a sweet potato. They make them into wedge fries and serve them with a mayonaise and garlic sauce that could stop your heart if you glanced at a bowel. You know, health food. This other place I went to here is called Burger Fuel and their burgers are like angina in a bag. Great stuff. I can't any of this anymore, but I have fond memories : )
