That's not that big a difference lol and wouldn't affect those numbers to that degree. Will be interesting to track how FVV does over the course of the season, given he's playing with the same "scrub teammates".
Yeah, except with a coach that has more of a plan, and a couple of veterans better than anything we had last year.....but you do you.. DD
I played HS basketball but alright... if you're just gonna dismiss them out of hand then there's no point in continuing the discussion. BPM adjusts for teammates, the VORP I'm citing is a completely new calculation tailored to basketball.. I suggest you read up on both of them at BBallReference. FVV is literally the only veteran we have "better than anything we had last year"... and the Rockets signed him in order to move on from KPJ at the PG position. It's time you move on from that and accept it. These snarky replies aren't productive whatsoever.
That's just one way, also many other team metrics go into both metrics, including team TS% and he spent a lot of time on the court with awful players like Jalen and Jabari who drag those numbers down.
I like FVV, I always said KPJ was a combo guard - IMHO, if there was no DV, KPJ would be starting at SG. And the Rox team would be better. DD
And yet Sengun was able to be more productive with advanced metrics, incluidng win shares, under the same circumstances. Never felt like KPJ was ever able to develop good chemistry with our best player last year. That remains to be determined, need a bigger sample size to evaluate that.
i think that had something to do with coaching, the emphasis was feeding Jalen, one of the worst players on the team, rather than Sengun, the best overall player on the team. Don't mistake what I'm saying, FVV was better last season, in a perfect world KPJ isn't a violent moron and you have KPJ and FVV starting together..... but it's not a perfect world. I would expect FVV's numbers to suffer a bit this season on the worst 3 point shooting team in the league vs last season where he had 2 at least part time starters who shot better than KPJ, the Rockets only shooter last season. When you're stuck passing to Jalen Green or Jabari Smith, you aren't going to have a very good time.
I highly doubt that, KPJ was clearly given free reign to do whatever he wanted out there. Even Green was able to develop a nice, but fleeting, two man game at times with Sengun. If he could do it, KPJ could - I don't understand the mental gymnastics to somehow try to explain why KPJ wasn't a more effective player while taking shots on our current players we hope are still developing to do so. Given he's not even on the team anymore, I won't spend more time discussing him after this post.
If the Rockets org isn't having internal conversations on the possibilities of Jalen Green trades in the off season, then they are derelict
Giving "free reign" to 21 year old combo guards like KPJ and 20 year old shooting guards like Jalen Green sounds like piss poor coaching to me....
Ivey has a career lower scoring efficiency than Green. Green had a much better rookie year efficiency wise also. He also is 5 days younger than Green and not a year as one night think.
Given the org hasn't done anything to help Jalen at all in the previous two years, I think we just have to assume this is his 3rd rookie year and blame it on Stone and Silas. It can't be understated just how little support has been put in place until this year to help Jalen along - poor coaching, a roster that didn't really have any role cohesions or strategy around it(just a bunch of young dudes), very few vets to show Jalen the right habits or right ways to play. I mean if you don't feed a plant, it won't grow no matter how strong it's roots. I get the frustration around his level of play and agree that it hasn't been good enough but I think selling low on Jalen is absolutely the wrong move here. At least give Ime 3/4 of the season to work with Jalen - hold him accountable, have him working with vets who understand how to execute schemes, allow him to be a part of a real offensive and defensive system - and then let's see how he responds. He had a bunch of blind people teaching him how to paint the last few years - give the guy the benefit of actually getting real teachings before we cast him aside for Silas and Stone's organizational failures. ...and I'll say this again - this is our org coming dangerously close to becoming the Kings of the new NBA. You can't deliberately be bad forever waiting to draft the right 19yr old and expecting them to bring culture and accountability to your org - those types of players are generational and the odds are low you will ever hit on them....instead you generally get the talented players who need to learn how to grow into leadership, and need to learn how to play smarter. Those soft skills aren't there for 99.9% of NBA draftees and it's silly to expect Jalen to be the exception...really Lebron and Wemby may be the only two I can remember recently who walked in with some inkling of responsibility for themselves as being a torch bearer for something bigger than themselves and I think a large part of that is they were prepped for it long before the draft because they were such promising young athletes in their pre-NBA days. Let's work with Jalen to be a better player first and stop thinking about him as a franchise guy because at this point we are FAR from it.
yeah, very funny. DET got the W, though. Ivey was +5 I don’t think we get to laugh at other teams and players, what with our trash team… If we were Denver we get to laugh, but we’re not. ROX need to shake things up.
