You are right - I did think poorly of Hinch, as far as his strategic decisions are concerned, and honestly still do when it comes to strategy. I really don’t like how he handled 2019 World Series. However, I did learn to love how he handled the chemistry of the the players and team. Yes - there are examples of people like Joe Torre and others that became very successful. Your points are well taken - but I still don’t want Ausmus.
Hard to argue with such a compelling and fact-based argument. I am not sure which stats would be unadvanced enough for you. Batting average? OK, he batted .286 in the playoffs, same as Altuve and better than anyone but Yordan. Is that better, or do the decimals scare you?
Need a Manager, A Former Player that had a high Batting Average, his Age in his 40s and has a Upbeat Charismatic Personality, Well Spoken, Can Read Body Language with Pitchers and Players, Connect with Players off the Field. A Former Catcher maybe that can speak English and Spanish with Pitchers.
Berkman would put big boy Chas in centerfield. I still can't believe this franchise thought starting Berkman at center was a good idea...
Been discussed but another guy saying Astros interested in Counsell but not sure if serious or just doing due diligence. So far Brewers, Guardians, Mets interested. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/10/astros-interested-in-craig-counsell.html
Is it because I am Asian? I have gone through this before.... Fort Bend lawmaker said primary foes are running because they’re ‘Asian' https://www.houstonchronicle.com/po...er-said-primary-foes-are-running-14876929.php
Just about everyone is interested in Craig Counsell. He is certainly one of the 3-4 most respected and valued managers in the game. My concern would be that he has close ties to Milwaukee and I suspect they would gladly pay him north of 5 million a year. If Counsell wants to leave, he is very close to who is running the Mets and they can probably offer him a deal at 8-10 million a year if they want to. The only way I see him in Houston is if he really strongly prefers the Astros and Crane really wants him as well. Counsell may appeal to Crane because he wants strong managers. Counsell has a pedigree and is opinionated but also works well with others.
And... he's a former player, which Crane also seems to value. The Astros have an incredibly unique, appealing offer: a championship caliber team with a window of at least two years, and some of the best players in baseball. It should, and likely will be, a job every managerial candidate covets.
Agreed on being a former player, and one that won several titles and was heavily involved in winning those titles on the field. That doesn't mean that someone can manage, but the reality is that is something that some people value when evaluating. Counsell also went to a very good academic high school and college (ND) and is considered very bright and progressive in baseball terms.
Seems like we would be the top choice for any potential manager out there. Who wouldn't want to take over a team that has a legitimate shot at winning the WS next season? Only reason we would get turned down would be someone chasing a bigger paycheck. Man, I hope we get this right......
And/or wants to stay in the Midwest or in a smaller populated area with lesser media stresses. I have no idea what he wants, but several accounts say he MAY want those things as reasons to stay with the Brewers.
To be fair, Yainer played in half of Game 2 of the ALCS and failed at every opportunity, including once with the bases loaded and no outs. Game 6 and 7 were blowouts, so I doubt he makes a major difference there so that leaves Game 1 as the only valid argument.
Game 6 was 4-2 going to the bottom of the 8th. That’s the inning the Astros could have won the series. Base loaded 1 out…in retrospect Dubon and Singleton took the season’s most important ABs
