Fred VanVleet will be the worst FA acquisition in Rockets history

He is not the player that will lead the team in teh playoff run. He is not here to win a lot of games. He is here to develop the young core, and a good choice for that. Too bad it costs 40 million, but it doesn't matter much.

 

No, he hasnt shot well. But consider this.

FVV is the guy who has to jack up a shot when the other guys fail to get to their spots and/or run things the way they should with the clock running down.
The more the guys around him get comfortable and execute better on offense, the better FVV will look.

 

Look, he is too small to go to the hole and finish strong in traffic.

That is why he is made a jump shooter exclusively and maybe a few floaters.

Takes away a lot of his game, he can only hope some third year guy is becoming a star really quickly.

 

Stromile Swift makes my list of biggest FA disappointments.

Thought he was going to be a badass because he had some good games against Houston - nope he sucked.

I’m always open to the fact I could be wrong but on this I can’t possibly see a situation where FVV at that salary and status gets benched for a rookie or sophomore. Even if he is Trish trash.

 

I haven't been able to see every minute of our 3 losses, but I've been impressed with what I have seen of FVV. He's crafty. It's the Jalen and Jabari show that's stinking up the joint. Those fellows play better, FVV looks like a savior.

 

Funny he was lauded as our best player in the first two games. After a bad third game, he's the worst FA signing in Rockets history. LOL. And some people are saying KPJ would have been better, or Harden would have been a better signing. It just cracks me up.

 

I am guessing you have not watched the Raptors play when Kawhi was there and when he left.

 

FVV sucks...

Fortunately, that contract will be a major facilitating piece in a deal for a star at next year's deadline.(maaaybe this one) In the meantime though...

Thabeet was a trade, and a flyer on a discounter asset. Not close enough to compare. But yeah, he was a major flop.

 

Then it would be better that he didnt suck.

before it happens? I put my name to everything I say. Back it up more often than not.

 

It wasn't a mistake it was an attempt at teaching our young guys how to be professionals - FVV may only be a role player but he is a self made one - he is clearly NOT worth 40m but he is worth it for 2 years to help bring our young pups up.

The issue of development is on the players and the org - they can choose to learn and work or not....

The problem is our fanbase is impatient, we are starting from ground zero ...it will take 3 years minimum.

I just feel like OP doesn't remember guys like Matt Maloney, Kelvin Cato (although that was technically an extension), Mo Taylor or Shandon Anderson. So many bad contracts. And they were a lot longer than 2 years.

 

Yeah I think we’re still paying Matt Maloney.

 

He played good the last game so why would it be 3 in a row?

Plus this thread is one of the dumbest of all time since FVV is an expiring next season.
