But he did. Diaz sat the bench game after game HEALTHY while Maldy played - even into the playoffs. Chas sat way more games HEALTHY than his performance dictated, letting AAA player Julks and no power, minor league results vs RHP Dubon play instead. Saying Dusty had to play Julks/Dubon and Maldy due to injuries is just flat incorrect.
If the search for a new manager has not already been completed Crane has not been doing his job. This need has been inevitable for months and should have long since been dealt with.
Really, McCormick is the most overrated player in the history of the Astros: One catch doesn’t guarantee you a career.
And btw, if either Peña or Tucker show up at ALL in this series, Astros are back in the WS. Blaming Maldy is invalid after winning a WS with his lack of a bat. But go ahead and cry about TWO unproven postseason players.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. He had a 130 OPS and 3.6 bWAR in only 400 at bats while playing above average CF and playing CF far less often that he should have. With 600 at bats, mainly in CF, he is a 5 WAR player - easily an All-Star, and it has nothing to do with his WS catch. There is no logic at all to a blanket assertion that he is “average at best”.
The preliminary has been done I'm sure, but I have little doubt Dusty would be back if he was determined to be back. After this, availability becomes an issue and the first point of order is mapping out whether the GM has the hiring authority upon approval of Crane or if it's ultimately a Crane decision with seven dwarf advisors having nothing more than the advisory role. Crane appears to be more of the latter and following a consensus model with himself being the Final Judge as a hands on owner. As with any hands on owner, he has special cases like JV where he is more involved than typical.
So the fact that we won carrying a zero at catcher one year means that he gets a pass every year? Pena and Tuck are at least great defensively. And the former has a LCS and WS MVP trophies to show he at least has the ability to hit well in the playoffs. Maldy? He's got a terrible bat (.502 OPS playoff career), doesn't frame well, weak arm, and our pitchers had a better ERA with his backup. Some guys get hot, some get cold, during the playoffs every year. But Maldanado is terrible, every year. At least Diaz has a chance to produce offensively and defensively.
Y’all are arguing with a guy who obviously know very little about baseball His agenda isn’t about the Astros being the best team they can be Quit replying to him and he will hopefully go away
They won't hire anyone just because they are bilingual, but it will be one of a number of traits the Astros value. A manager that is bilingual and familiar with other cultures is important.
