Alperen Sengun is going to average roughly 20-10-5 this year as a 21-year-old. Someone, please go tell Zach Collins that Alperen Sengun is not athletic.
I bet he averages 22-12-7 if Ime gives him the time like he did against the Spurs. By the end of the season I expect he will have several triple doubles and even his harshest critics will have to admit he is the one to build around. It is already clear to most people who really understand basketball.
The Rockets literally have no choice, they need to lean into Sengun - he is the ONLY one that looks ready to lead - and this is the year to find out...... Hopefully tonight we see the old Hakeem Inside out offense or a variation of it. DD
Probably FVV and possibly Dillon Brooks in terms of playing winning basketball. It's not even close among youngsters tho.
He is, at the very least, the best of the young guys right now. I've almost given up on Jalen Green and I've been rooting for him hard. I did see someone make the argument that this might as well be Jalen's rookie year due to the lack of structure and leadership in the last two years that made some sense. But I can't help but notice that Sengun has gotten better at a position that, historically, takes longer to develop while Jalen Green looks like pretty much the same player he did in year 1. I do still hold out some hope for Jalen though - and I am not at the same place with Jabari or Amen, whom I both have tremendous hope for. I also think Cam could be very good. But the reality is they won't all be stars. I'm just hoping a couple of them are. I feel like Sengun, though, has already demonstrated that his floor is Sabonis.
I'm sure he will, doesn't change the fact that he's a better player than Sengun right now, and has been for a while. Makes it hard to take any of the Sengun fans seriously when they act like it's written in stone that he's our clear best player when he really isn't (just like the rest of the youngsters.)
Just to play devil's advocate. You're giving up on Jalen who you rooted hard for, but ok with Jabari and Amen, despite Jabari looking the most bust-worthy of all our youngsters so far and Amen looking completely lost most of the time right now? And despite the fact that Jalen's been clearly the best scorer from his draft class so far? Makes sense...
Jabari has only played one year. Amen has played 2 games. Green has played two full seasons. That's why.
Who in Jalen's draft class do you think has performed better as a scorer? If Jalen's close to bust territory in your eyes...
They are at very different stages in their careers and play different positions. They also get paid very differently. Gallinari was probably a "better player" than Jokic in 2015-2016, when they played together. FVV and Alpi already seem to have good chemistry. This is not a competition between the two.
