Jokic has long arms which helps him. If you noticed, I said athleticism OR length. My goal post has always been in the center of the End Zone. I prefer a tall center over 7ft or a center who is athletic enough to block shots and deter the opposition from diving into the paint on defense....thats my position. To me, Sengun is a carbon copy of Sabonis. Good but limited.
You do realize that Sengun just recently turned 21, and that centers would rarely already be at their peak at 21? This is Sabonis and Sengun compared at the same age: Why would you assume that Sengun will not improve further?
Where do you see Sengun improving? Taller? More athletic? I don't see those happening. Is he maxed out? You seem to be a big fan of his, not saying that Im not, because I think he has value. I just dont think he and Jabari pair well together. He needs a player similar to Wemby to pair with.
@hlmbasketball - I do not want to hijack the Jabari thread, so I will quote your post and continue this discussion in the Alpi thread, ok?
6’11 is tall enough. And he’s an average to slightly above NBA athlete. But he’s a legit basketball player
Jabari Smith is a poor man LaMarcus Aldridge...sell High on him and let's make a run at getting Embiid!
He is a legit basketball player but my issue is, is he and Jabari compatible? Neither is extremely physical. I think what made Jabari shine in college was that he played next to a big, physical center. So, he didnt have to do a.lot of the dirty work. And Sengun is not physical. Like I said, Sengun either needs a tall or physical PF or Jabari needs a tall or physical center but together its not going to work.
I’m not disagreeing with that. I’m saying Alp is plenty big and athletic enough. He’s a solid defender but he’s not going to make up for others mistakes often, like Howard or Gobert.
If Jabari could become similar to Jaren Jackson Jr., he would be a better complement to Alpi. He needs to bulk up and "play bigger". I think that was our hope when we drafted him, that he would get there faster. Block more shots, hit more threes. That's what we need from him. He is still very young, so I wouldn't rule it out. But focus on these two things. Blocking shots and hitting threes.
I agree. I’m just not sure that’s Jabari’s skillset. Really I think he’s more of a 3 and Alp more of a 4
Man, this is brutal...wish we had won this one. No wonder Jabari was so dejected. Got pwned on both ends...several times.
I think Jabari would be a great fit with Sengun if Jabari was actually what he was advertised to be. An elite switchable defender who is 6'11 but is more slender with elite lateral movement, can switch 1-5. Then on offense he was supposed to be an absolute sniper from 3, elite catch and shoot player. I think this type of player is a great fit with Sengun. But unfortunately Jabari is none of these things so far. He's a 3 and D player who can't play defense and also can't shoot.
This is Sabonis's first year in the nba, so it is not a good comparison. Generally age matching and season matching doesn't work great because every player has a different experience in the first years depending on background, team etc. I think a good benchmark for Sengun would be Sabonis's 4th year, when he was an established starter and found his role. He was 23 back than and we can compare Sengun's development relative to that year. I am guessing Sengun will match that this season, being two years younger. Can you do Sengun's last season vs Sabonis's 4th season?
If Jabari and Sengun are not compatible together, you get rid of one of them and guess who'd that be when considering their young NBA careers? You are not really doing any favor for your agenda with that compatibilty take.
