There’s definitely way too much zero sum thinking with the Israeli-Palestine conflict. I’m really disappointed by those on the left who seem to think empathizing with civilians harmed (or worse) by Hamas terrorist attacks is somehow synonymous with excusing the government of Israel for its own crimes against the Palestinian people. Anyone who adopts Hamas or Hezbollah slogans as a means of protest is being a major ******* at best and propagating antisemitism at worst. That being said, I’m also seeing (on X, so take that with a shaker of salt) a lot of cries of “antisemitism” whenever someone expresses a desire for ceasefire or more specifically, a revulsion to Republican politicians declaring that Gaza should be “turned into a parking lot.” My general philosophy on conflict can be broadly summarized as “don’t punch down” and both sides are unquestionably guilty of utilizing armed groups (however asymmetrical they may be) to harm innocents. Regardless of the larger debate, both demand condemnation.
Over half the population of Gaza weren’t alive when Hamas came to power. That’s ridiculous statement. Can’t encourage the death of civilians/children
Hamas isn't powerful enough to fight Israel. Their fighting style is to strike Israel, then kill or get killed (by not letting them evacuate) enough Palestinians to make Israel stop. Hamas exploits the morality of Israel and the western world. morals they themselves lack. The Palestinian deaths are definitely on Hamas's hands and if anyone is encouraging the deaths of civilians it would be responses like yours as that's why Hamas kills Palestinians. I also find the 'Hamas doesn't represent Palestine' claims tiresome. I saw no marches in the streets by Palestinians when Hamas violated the ceasefire and beheaded children, raped women, and lite people on fire. I only see marches in the streets by Palestinians calling for death of all Jews or Israelis.
ceasefire right now would be akin to calling for Hamas to get away with it and be allowed to continue its attacks on Israel. a ceasefire can't be had until hostages are returned and Hamas is no more as Hamas's mission statement is to wipe Israel off the face of the earth.
You posted a pre-rehearsed statement and addressed nothing I said. Yes everyone gets hammas is evil, and no-- when census data and every objective metric states over half the gazan population is under the age of 18, you can't say they're all Hamas (and that's giving you an astronomical benefit of the doubt assuming everyone over the age of 18 does). Its a profoundly idiotic statement to make that ironically hammas uses to get their terrorist organization to attack israeli civillians, their foil being there are no civillians on that side of the border. The similarity in rhetoric is disappointing Its personally kind of crazy when I read statements like this, how much people jump at certain narratives even at the expense of committing the worst atrocities/dehumanizing a group of people. On that order, since all slave owners were white hundreds of years ago, and slave owners raped their slaves their progeny are all rapists and racists. In terms of generalizations we aren't grazing the surface on the blanket statements we can make.
everyone should preserve their humanity and avoid dehumanizing others. Condemnation where it should be aka hamas attack, and other indiscriminate killings
Sadly, this is true, and I have been warning about this. This will get you called out as an "Islamophobe" or even as a "Nazi". I am a communicative person and not confrontational in real life, so when I talk to Muslims in places I lived and traveled (admittedly mostly taxi/Uber drivers), they just tell me what they really think, and I let them talk. The levels of anti-semitism, of making excuses for terrorism, the levels of hate against Israel and the USA are frightening. The Pew polls on Muslim attitudes are accurate. And the people I would talk to there aren't even the most extreme fringe for the most part, they are part of the Muslim mainstream. The more of these people you allow to immigrate to your country, the more of the extreme fringe you have in your country. I don't know how European societies can even recover from this. Demographically, this will only get worse. Europe will continue to have to deal with exactly what Israel has been dealing with. Terrorist attacks, suicide bombings, attacks against LGBTQ people, attacks against Jews, intolerance, violence, etc. This list - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_terrorism_in_Europe - is sadly only a small taste of what we will have to cope with going forward.
