yes, correct. it gets picked, however, is my guess. I’d pick it up. Like, what can I use that money on for next year that’s better than Green? It doesn’t get you that much under the cap…. And if you pick it up and are over the cap you still have MLE which is actually a bit larger as a slot than Green’s salary…

He needs to play smarter and not harder.

What do you say to the people who see that you are so powerful in your physique, with your powerful thighs and pectoral muscles and wonder what your schwanzenstook is like?

When the White Knights take up the domestic violence cause, but not the blatant bigotry cause it sort of pegs this place what it is.

They will pick that up for sure.......but the extension is looming he needs a lot of work to prove he earns that....right now you let the market set the price as a RFA and decide to match or not.

I really want him to succeed he is a Rocket....KPJ was our hedge in case he doesn't....now he is gone - rightfully so, I was a Mobley guy through and through, we lack height....still do, but now - we really need Green or Sengun or Bari or Amen to make a leap.

Right now we have no heirarchy.

If I had to guess - he will get the full max.

Does he deserve it at this point? Nope, he doesn't but the Rockets have invested a lot in him, and that includes Stone who cannot afford to see Green leave after getting Green for tanking for an entire season.

Stone really sucks - there is no general philosophy or culture for the organization and he is poor at roster building.

Whatever - lets hope Green takes a big step ( I think he will) and the Rockets gladly pay him.

Yeah, that would be a mistake at this point. He's still a one horse pony. Let's hope so, but I honestly don't see it.

God knows I wanted Mobley, but have rooted for Green since he became a Rocket. I'm looking for a big leap in here. At what point, are the diminishing returns exponentially multiplied...If it doesn't happen before the deadlne, I'm moving him.

I think that would be a big mistake unless he turns into a MUCH better player than he's ever been, and does so this season. Locking down a mediocre to poor player with a 5 year contract somewhere in the ballpark of 220-230 million dollars would set the team back significantly. The only way you even consider that is if by the end of the season he's a top 2 player on the team overall...something he's never been before.

Right now the team looks like a hastily composed gaggle of misfit pieces. This season the team will have to pick a direction and whittle down the list of 7 guys who are allegedly contenders to be "franchise players". If you have 7 guys who think they are "franchise players", you clearly don't have any "franchise players".

Once that is settled, you can assign roles for everyone else and they either need to fit them, or be moved for someone else who can.

Is Jalen going to be a primary ball handler? If so, one of either FVV or Sengun need to be gone, you simply can't have 3 "primary" ball handlers without making your team schizophrenic. The most likely choice would be Sengun since he's not really going to fit into a role of a stretch 5 and his defense wouldn't merit him being in a role as a defensive stopper big.

Are Sengun and FVV going to be primary ball handlers? Then Jalen either needs to learn how to shoot the 3 efficiently or be gone. He'll never fit in the off ball SG role shooting 33-34% from 3 and being a complete liability on defense.

What is Jabari Smith's role going to be? Is he a primary scorer? Is his defense going to improve?

    What is Tari Eason's role?

    What about Dillon WestBrooks?

    What about Amen?

Is a FVV/Jalen tandem REALLY worth something like 86-90 million dollars per year?

All of these questions need answers before ANYONE would land a massive extension.

That is kind of where I am - if he is not clearly moving into that "I am a star" situation, I would move him at the deadline.

Lots of draft picks never become a superstar, the majority in fact - he is not trending in the right direction.

Are we sure there would be much of a market for him if the Rockets sought to trade him?

HoopsHype just published a poll done of 20 NBA executives as to what player under 25 they'd most want to build around, each executive filled out their top 5 in order and returned it.....Jalen got 1 5th place vote total.

We may have only gotten a very good role player with our #2 pick which isn't great but could have been worse.

yes, I guess it pegs this as a place that would not stand for beating-up girls, but would tolerate a bit peppery language from time to time…
it’s not a bad place, as far as the Internets are concerned….

What makes Jalen Green a very good role player? And don't say scoring ability because he doesn't do that efficiently like very good role players do.

Maxing someone just because the org 'invested' lot of time is the very definition of sunk cost fallacy. For our sake, i hope the front office knows this.

That said; Green still has a whole year to show his worth. To be honest, even if he isn't a franchise guy; he can still be a meaningful contributor to the team long term; so long as he doesn't ask for money way above his market value.

For the years he's been here, the org has given him something many in his draft class did not get: significant starter minutes. Yes the previous coaches were bad, but he can't say he didn't get a shot here in HOU.

I'm pro labor even as it pertains to multi millionaires. Fair value means 'fair', which also includes not overpaying someone.

i'm not sure what teams are really dying to add jalen green to their roster, and i say this as a green supporter.

it will be interesting to see the market for him. we could get very lucky and give a good deal on this extension.
