Please do not trade 1st round and 2nd round picks. We are having a decent season, but only because the AFC South still sucks. I don't want to go through the BoB era where we just brag about being division winners with no actual hope of winning a championship.

Let's get Kyle Pitts from Atlanta, the coach there is allergic to him anyways. 3rd or 4th rounder for him.

    The difference is

    1. We don't have BOB coaching the team and dragging them down

    2. We actually have a franchise QB now.

    3. We don't have BOB as the GM completely destroying the team.

First and second round picks are VERY valuable, but if you can get a player that is good enough, you do it. The Texans have a fairly good shot at making the playoffs right now, but if they could add an impact player to the D line and maybe an additional impact WR, they'd have a shot at actually winning playoff games.

Texans will also enter the offseason with a large amount of cap space. Not having picks is easier to swallow if you can sign players to fill holes. Assuring you can get said players then signing without worrying about competition via FA is never a bad thing.

I can say with some level of confidence that Hunter wouldn’t hate the idea of coming home, but it looks like the Texans are focused on Burns. I’m not mad at that at all.

I don't like double dipping when you pay both the team in draft picks and the player you still have to compensate at FA prices. Pay each for just what you get ftom them.

Just a general question. What type of discount do you make to trade for a player on an expiring contract? Or do you ignore the difference in games of control verses the years of control for draft picks? This of course assumes the hometown discount is a myth in today's world of athletics.

A similar question is how much do you discount a future pick each year out from the present. ie - a 2025 vs a 2024? The games are all over the place from drastic discounts to none at all.

The most realistic deadline trade appears to be to bring in Marshall Jr with a low pick and a deal in place for an extension. It's not exactly a Chase Young or Corbin Burns deal, but I just don't think we are willing to pay the price the teams are demanding. But added depth with Woody's injury and just coming off Tank's injury seems like the prudent move Caserio has hinted at..

But both should be revisited in FA at the end of the year.

Do the character and fit evaluations and if there are no red flags, it works for me better than Tee Higgans as a deadline Trade. 10 games and two years (one under rookie contract and one the fifth year option) is worth draft picks. Whether these are middle or swaps is just a matter of preference.

After getting Patterson in the 6th, I'm leaning toward swaps where we can still find value, even with a lower pick. ie Houston 3 (95) for Pitts and Atlanta 4 (120) or 5 (156) rather than just HOU 4 (116) for Pitts. We keep a rookie contract in play, even though a lower pick.

Taking a concept from BasballTradeValues, if a coach won't play a player or injury prevents reasonable availability, the excess value will become NEGATIVE. This explains why a middle pick for a former high 1st is not an insult.

I don't think we are one or two players away from being title contenders, so I'd prefer to keep our picks.

If we traded them for a young proven player that's either on a rookie contract or a reasonable contract, then sure. But I'm not a fan of trading multiple 1st round picks for a young player and then signing them to a new position high extension like we did with LT

FOUR years of a 2nd or 3rd for 10 games of even Chase Young isn't a STEAL. It's 10 games. If we resign him it's simply a FA signing after his 10 games under his expiring contract.
