For a self identified Korean/German, you sure have a strong affinity to Israel. The only group with a bigger affinity is Hinduvata Twitter. They LOOoOve Israel more than actual Israelis.

My moral compass doesn't care about religion, nationality or skin colour.

My passport doesn't matter for me to understand that those who rape women, burn babies and brutally murder and kidnap innocent civilians are not the good guys.

And those who call for a genocide against Jews on US campuses or in European or American or Middle Eastern cities are not the good guys either.

If the Israelis were the ones who cut babies out of pregnant women's wombs, mass-raped Palestinians, and if Jews around the world were celebrating that by handing out sweets, I would not support them.

But it's not the Israelis who do that.

The ones who commit these atrocities are Hamas, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Abu Sayaf, Boko Haram, the Taliban, etc.

And guess what they all have in common?

    They are Islamists.

Israel is facing a threat the rest of the world also faces. We must support Israel because not only are we all next, it's already been happening - look at Bataclan, Charlie Hebdo, etc. etc. etc. etc.

Not sure the rest of the world sees the threat, but it is real - look at how unruly and ungrateful all the Islamist immigrants in western countries are being?

They won't stay and fix their own countries nor even fight for a peaceful solution even in their own faith - yet they will go into western civilized countries and demand to let them set up their own rules and laws based upon a made up religion.

Then jump around excited when planes slam into buildings or kids at music festivals are murdered. Those should all be considered hate speech and crimes and lead to deportation if warranted, IMHO.

And then claim victimhood after committing atrocities.....sad sad sad.

I don't think detesting Islam/Islamists should automatically commit you to being pro-Israel.
In the near future, Israel will be closer allies to the Saudis than us. Once we step away, Israel will likely show no restraint in clearing out the Palestinian holdovers. Right now, Israel is our only reliable ally in the Middle East, but they end up causing us more issues than solving them. Thankfully, the oil markets are no longer tied to flare ups in the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Despite what politicians say, the UK, and not Israel, is our (US) actual closest ally due to cultural similarities. I think I would feel less strongly about Israel's actions toward its neighbors if we were not helping them with direct military aid, for decades now.

I kind of think there's a tendency to feel like you have to choose a "team" and root them on, the same as in domestic politics, and people are generally predisposed to be against team Jihadi, and so naturally start rooting for good ol' "U of Israel" instead, because they are on the other side of the ball. And once you've identified who you are rooting for you start to tune out any info that doesn't reinforce that?

    Sort of a Madonna-w**** situation I guess?

Ambiguity tamps down on the adrenaline rush of righteous indignation.

What you don't understand is that I do not object to what they believe in, but to what they do because of some of the things they believe in.

I don't have a problem with religious beliefs which do not inspire intolerance and violence, even if I find them illogical and silly. As long as they don't lead to bad actions against others, who cares. Like, I find whatever the Amish are doing silly - but they don't murder others because of whatever silly stuff they believe, so, great.

The problem I have is with ideological parts of a religion which inspire hate, intolerance and violence - not with the rest of the religion itself, or its peaceful followers who basically ignore the dangerous parts of the ideology.

As far as I am concerned, people can believe in the ****ing flying spaghetti monster and that they will go to heaven and sleep with 72 virgins and whatever the heck they want.

But if they think they get to sleep with 72 virgins for murdering Jews and other "infidels" and therefore murder Jews and other "infidels" - that's what I have a problem with.
