The only people shifting the needle in the US are the donor class. Universities believe in free speech and freedom until the dollars stop. Then **** your freedom of thought.
I bet the Armenians are furious. They should’ve gone west for allies in 1991 instead of sticking to the Russian horse. In many respects Israel and Armenia are similar. Both are homelands for historically successful and persecuted minorities in the Middle East and Europe. But Israel sided with Azerbaijan. And Armenia sided with Iran.
Propaganda doesn't need to be misleading. Yes, it is misleading - kidnapped or missing posters that are posted, are done for the purpose of someone recognizing the person kidnapped or missing and calling the authorities. There is zero chance that these missing people are in London or New York City. They are political.
The usual suspects will be frothing at the mouth over a statement from the hated UN and even worse someone working with refugees, but ... https://www.theguardian.com/comment...judge-us-all-if-there-is-no-ceasefire-in-gaza I run the UN agency for Palestine refugees. History will judge us all if there is no ceasefire in Gaza Philippe Lazzarini The UN charter is a commitment to our shared humanity. Civilians – wherever they are – must be protected equally Philippe Lazzarini is commissioner-general of UNRWA For more than two weeks now, unbearable images of human tragedy have come out of Gaza. Women, children and elderly people are being killed, hospitals and schools have been bombarded – no one is spared. As I write this, UNRWA, the United Nations agency for Palestine refugees, has already, tragically, lost 35 of its staff, many killed while in their homes with their families. Entire neighbourhoods are being flattened over the heads of civilians in one of the most overcrowded spots on Earth. The IDF has been warning Palestinians in Gaza to move to the southern part of the strip as it bombs the north; but the strikes also continue in the south. There is nowhere safe in Gaza. Nearly 600,000 people are sheltering in 150 schools and other UNRWA buildings, living in unsanitary conditions with limited clean water, little food and medicines. Mothers do not know how they can clean their children. Pregnant women pray that they will not face complications during delivery because hospitals have no capacity to receive them. Entire families now live in our buildings because they have nowhere else to go. But our facilities are not safe – 40 UNRWA buildings, including schools and warehouses, have been damaged by the strikes. Many civilians sheltering inside them were, tragically, killed.
How about grief, or even outrage...Are you being deliberately obtuse, or at minimum, borderlne inhuman? Ripping them down is akin to spitting on their fresh graves...and all of the family.
Universities have never believed in true free speech. Academics have (rightly) long feared repression and violence against academic minded individuals who push "enlightened" thought that often challenges government. Their fear has been proven over and over in almost every country. So their championship of free speech is about wanting the government to let them do what they want, not about pure free speech. They want to be able to foster liberal thinking (not democratic liberal, just liberal), revolutionary thinking, government criticism, etc. without reprisal.
It is literally propaganda. Propaganda definition: The posters are obviously biased and somewhat misleading and are promoting and publicizing a particular political cause. With that said, I wouldn't tear them down.
