I think his problem is that he's not a good shooter. He hasn't fixed his form yet and I have no reason to believe he will. He spent probably 13 years using that bad form taking 20 shots in every game he's played, so fixing that at this point is (IMO) impossible. Given his slight frame and shorter size, he will likely always be a target for the other team on defense. Last night, Fultz's eyes would light up when Jalen was matched on him because knew it would be easy going. So given that he'll probably always be a defensive liability, although it's possible he someday progresses to neutral overall, his offense needs to be top-notch to make up for it. But if you're a shooting guard that can't shoot then that limits you on the offensive side of the ball too. I love the way he attacks the rim and I think he's good at drawing fouls. Those are both big things. But if he's a bad shooter and a subpar finisher, that doesn't make an impactful enough offensive player to make up for the defense.
Oh I know. But that man screwed his own career up and made us weaker. KPJ was a hedge against Green busting, now we are stuck with hope. DD
Pretty much my belief as well. Jalen's issues would be mitigated with a different attitude a bit but he's just so....soft. He'll have games where he's "on" and drop 40 but he can only do it once every 3 or 4 games. Consistency is key and he's still madly inconsistent. I trust Cam more driving to the rim than I do Jalen. I'll give everyone half a season still before flying off the handle. I also think Ime was experimenting a lot yesterday so have to factor that in as well.
I'm afraid you might be right. Of course now he's probably chasing his ass with both hands with a new coach, and it's only one game, but he just has no fundamental understanding of the game. The Rockets held onto KPJ until he ("didn't", ahem) beat the s*** out of his girlfriend, so we just have to hope (warning! bad metaphors approaching) the ship settles on its keel, but the reefs are looming.
Oh, don't you worry. If it's one thing Cam will do (and I like the kid), it's drive to the rim. "Cam catch. Cam dunk!" "Pass it, Cam, pass it!" "CAM DUNK!" Opposing teams won't spend too much time scheming against Cam: "When this kid gets it, slide in, take the charge. Trust me."
Jalen better live in the gym this season. I do not want to extend that guy absent an enormous jump in play. Yes, we must pass judgement after the season. But judgement must come. He’s the highest franchise draft pick since Yao Ming and he’s way behind his development curve. Enough with the excuses and coddling. Maybe put the fashion and modeling career on the back burner while you learn to become a good basketball player. I want to see laser focus. People actually griping cause Jalen was left off the Atlantic top 100? Lol. He’s not a top 100 player you delusional homers.
I still have hope for him cause he's good at the hardest part of being an elite scorer: generating good looks. He just doesn't make the actual shots consistently. Sometimes he gets hot and drops 40 but other times he can't make them and scores 10. If Devin Booker was taking these shots he'd make them every time. I've seen Jalen miss way too many wide open 3s. That should be automatic. I think the fact that his free throw percentage is so mediocre for an elite scoring guard at 79% for his career is a red flag. That should be in the high 80s. It's easy to point out a completely broken jumper like Amen's but Jalen's might need some tweaking as well.
Jalen played a total of 76 games last year. He scored as so: 40+ points = 4 games or 5% 30-39 pts = 12 games or 15% 20-29 pts = 29 games or 38% 58% of his games last season he scored 20 or more. 15-19 pts = 16 games or 19% <16 pts = 15 games or 19% I rounded down all the numbers rather than up also. But he's literally the opposite of what you say he is, that's a majority of good performances not "once every 3 or 4 games." You know who ACTUALLY struggled to break 15 points at all for the majority of his games last season? Apparently the second coming of Christ.
I’m not counting last night against Green or Amen. Both looked nervous and had butter fingers. I mean some very basic plays they screwed up. Jalen couldn’t catch the ball and Amen couldn’t dribble. But yikes they both looked bbbadddd last night. but Sengun looked like trash a week ago too. So let’s give them a couple games to get the nerves out. Obviously more concerning for Green than amen given this is year 3.
Are you referring to Sengun? How many shots did he take compared to Green? Also, Sengun gets assists — that’s contributing to the offense just as much as a bucket himself. Apologies if you’re referring to someone else — too lazy to read.
Now post efficiency numbers for those games. Green has had great games when he shot lights out, no one is denying that, but he also had many inefficient high scoring games which is a negative
why would I keep the same energy when Green and the team look better? Do you weirdos even know how being a fan of a team works? This kid has been messing up seriously with my welfare as a Rockets fan for 2+ years, and as a fan it is my duty to have nothing but contempt for him. That’s how fanhood normally works, and has worked on this message board for decades for many, many players. If he improves my satisfaction as a Rockets fan, why would I still have contempt? There’s been only a couple of players that have developed some following by weirdos like you that is completely dissociated from team success. With J.Lin, I assume it was ethnic-based. With this kid, I don’t even know what it is. I mean the kid himself admits playing like a puzzi, in a media interview, and you keep yapping nonsense…. SMH
