Actually the PLO/Palestinian Authority recognized the existence of Israel at the Oslo Accords. What those agreements that Israel offered lacked was that they wouldn’t have allowed the Palestinians to fully economically develop as they wouldn’t have control do their own borders and also crucial water rights. While the PA is far from perfect with some deep problems of their own they have been undermined by Israel policy of collective punishment and even support of Hamas. I’ve been to the Middle East and I’ve studied the history. The more I learn about it the more intractable to the problems appear to be. Both Israelis and Palestinians can and do claim victimhood and both have undermined efforts to make peace. Both sides and much of the Middle East are hostages to radicals who wield an inordinate influence. In the meantime most of those who are serious about peace like Rabin and Sadat are assasinated.
