Election is coming up soon. Looks like John Whitmire is going to take it. From the mailers and billboards, etc, looks like he spent a ton more money than Sheila Jackson Lee. Neither of them are addressing my current chief concern, that it takes for freakin' ever to get a building permit. I'd also like to see my recycling picked up on the appointed day, occassionally.

Whitmire needs to hire like 10,000 new garbage people to clean up all the trash. either that or throw people in jail for 4 years for constant littering.

Shame she was too busy working on voting for a new speaker that she missed the riveting mayoral debate

That would be a cool mayor. He could end every speech with a "Can you dig that suckaaaaa".

I really don't get why she is running either.
She is set in Congress. It's not that mayor is a step down, Houston is a major economic force with major players. Mayor of any city can really be a downfall, it's a hands on job with tangible consequences and ifthings don't go right the blame falls squarely on the mayor.

That being said, either because they've been good or problems haven't been covered, Houston has had a good run with mayors

Maybe sick of dealing with all the assholes in DC and just wants to come home and help her hometown.

This is my fear. The mayor needs to balance political ambitions with boring administrative work and relationships. You have to get along and make things happen then slide in your BS politics as an extra.

Turner gets **** done. Annise Parker didn't. SJL seems like she has no desire except she probably ran out of steam in DC.

Yea, I don't have a good feeling about any of them. I did like Turner, he "seemed" to have Houston`s best interest at heart.

This is an actual thing that I’ve heard from Minnesota politicians who have served both in DC and in Minnesota. Many including the current governor who used to be a U.S. rep said that they got far more done and felt more relevant than they did in DC.
