The Astros lose Gerrit Cole, George Springer, Carlos Correa, Justin Verlander to both injury and free agency, two first round picks, two second round picks - not to mention a host of other injuries, departures, declines - all during Dusty's tenure, and all they've done is make three straight ALCS, win two pennants and one ring. And you think they've gotten "worse"?
That is some weird logic and I'm as critical of regular season Dusty as anyone here. The Astros are as good or better than we have ever been except for the 2019 dream team that only lost because the Nationals got crazy hot and the record proves it. Does he do illogical things, absolutely. Does F over some of his players like Chas because of favoritism and stupid bias, no doubt. Does he lose games in the margins during the regular season with questionable lineups and decisions, frustratingly so. But the Astros are not a worse team. We just lose a few more games in the regular season than we should. If Dusty gets us back to the WS, there is no doubt he will be back and I think he would deserve to. It won't stop me from b****ing about him next season, but he deserves the respect. 3 straight world series appearance when you can't spend like the Yankees, is amazing and he was a big part of it.
Despite all of the naysayers, Dusty has this team 2 wins away from getting to the World Series...AGAIN. Like others have said, he came into a tough situation in 2020 and became a stabilizing force, it's possible that he SAVED the Astros dynasty from being broken up then and there. Meanwhile, he has won a WS, and the Astros dynasty is showing no signs of slowing down. Respect Dusty Baker
Dusty won't be fired regardless of what happens His contract is up at the end of the year, so even if he is back he wouldn't be fired I wish they would go to him after this Back to Back is done and try to get him into the front office. Give him some type of President title. Put him in charge of starting some baseball academies in a few of the lower income portions of the city. These academies could give free memberships to kids in poverty and not only teach them the game of baseball, but give them things to be a part of, things to believe in, things do to could help lead them down the right direction in life. The whole program could be named after him Not only could it be great PR for the organization but it could have a big impact on a lot of kids. And the Astros could get back to a manager who believes in and uses analytics which is where this whole run began
Every team uses analytics. Dodgers have the largest analytics staff. Analytics alone is not going to win you a World Series. Sometimes a Manager’s gut and decision making is the difference. Rays are heavy into analytics and it has cost them playoff series because they pulled their pitchers too soon based on analytics.
You have to be pretty disconnected from reality to think Dusty didn’t playa part in either of those moves.
Does baker instruct him what to do after he got tossed or does the assistant really operates on his own? Serious question
