Montgomery's luck has ran out. Astros squandered some opportunities Game 1.. plus Yordan was sick. He'll surrender at least 3 more runs.
He really wasn't though. He had 1 really good year in 2017 and was modestly positive in 2016 and 2016. There was a big drop off this year, but he has been worth negative runs in framing every year from 2019 on. The Astros re-acquired him during that season and have resigned him twice since. Since they have two catchers who are negative value in framing both of they acquired, it would appear the value framing relatively less than other defensive metrics. Why would they overpay for Maldonado just because they think he's worth being on the team?
