Member of the leopard party who thought he could tame the leopard is surprised that the leopard is lashing out.

I dunno. I don't like dignifying MAGA with a leopard. Maybe more like an old, bloated, half-crazy sow that can still do damage when it works up a head of steam. :D:eek:

Real question: if you receive threats because you voted against Gym Jordan, (suppressor of literal abuse victims, accomplice to literal traitors), are you going to vote for him on the next ballot? I'm sure not, especially not if I'm a politician who just made the threats public for my voters to see.

Opposition to Gym Jordan could grow with additional ballots

There’s a coordinated effort among the 55 Republicans, who opposed Jordan in an internal conference meeting last week to build on their votes of opposition, to ensure that he loses more votes in each round.
In other words, he loses more votes with each round he holds.

The number of people who vote against Gym on the House floor will only increase with each round of balloting, many Republicans say. That held true for the first two rounds.

Jordan has never had to build coalitions. He’s never had to strike a deal. He’s only been a bomb thrower happy to create chaos. He’s not experienced in governing.

Gym Jordan’s failure shows the limits of ‘legislative terrorism’

Politicians get threats all the time now. And yes it is illegal and they should continue to arrest and prosecute perpetrators. But this is just standard fare now and politicians only mention their death threats for rhetorical advantage. I've grown numb to it.

Yeah - especially by email. I imagine they all get dozens or more of those kinds of "f*** you" type messages daily.

Cell phones or contacting spouses or things like that is a bit more ridiculous.

The majority of the GOP has to know he can't be an effective Speaker, yet not a single one of them is willing to stand up and run against him. It's a conference full of cowards and followers. Which, if you think about it, is pretty ridiculous when you're just needing to find 435 good people out of 350 million to be in Congress. How can it be so devoid of people with either courage or leadership skills?

Good for now. A professional antagonist like Jordan has no place leading this country. Him assuming the Speakership would've been like hiring the bank robber to be the branch manager; just because he's in the bank doesn't mean he wants to work there.

Simple. Those skills are irrelevant in a party supporting a man lacking those skills himself. They now seek big mouth conspiracy theorists who will lie, cheat, or steal, to stay in power, and are willing to help spread propaganda to the cult following. Be part of the mob or else we will be hellbent on ruining your career, and spread the word to our following who will threaten your life if you aren't with us. It's mob mentality.

I think they are going to try the Temporary Speaker route without asking Dems and it will fail (due to Gaetz and company). Eventually they'll make some consession to Dems and McHenry will become acting speaker. They'll want to do this again in January but I think McHenry just ends up the Speaker until 2025 - whether officially or in an acting capacity - because they won't be able to find anyone else.

think about how people get elected though. raise some money, make clickable content on social media for the most ardent (crazy) primary voters in your district. boom, elected.

probably the worst possible recipe we could imagine for electing a legislative body (or any other body other than a cast for a scandalous reality TV series).

This is why the Founders were leery of direct democracy. It's even why in The Republic Socrates criticizes democracy.
