The Rockets will have a top 10 defense this season

    This is the one prediction I'm curious to see if it comes true. We should see an improvement, if for no other reason than having FVV and Dillon, but also more veteran players and more defensive-minded players like Amen (or ones like him that aren't allergic to it, anyway) and possible improvement from players like Alpi. But to see a top-10 team? I hope so. The regular season will tell if the pre-season and all the wishing are true. :D

    Top 10 is lofty. You gotta shoot high though if you want to get somewhere. Rockets have the personnel this year to make it happen.

    The top 10 defenses last season were (in order):

    Cavs (Worst defensive backcourt in the NBA by talent, still ended up #1)
    Grizzlies (lost Adams and Brooks, added Smart)
    Celtics
    Bucks
    Bulls (Were thought to have bad rim protector at C and Lavine/Derozan guarding best wings every night)
    Pelicans
    Suns
    Heat
    Wolves
    Sixers

    Some of you act like we have to have every single element to be a top 10 defense. You think we must have excellent rim protection, excellent wing defense, excellent POA defense, excellent defensive coach. That's what you need to be #1.

    The truth is a committed roster with 7-8 good to great defenders and a truly excellent defensive coach can do it. I think Udoka is that guy. I think he knows defense is the only path to the playoffs because a top 10 offense is impossible in my eyes.

    As long as we have Sengun as our starting Center, we would not be top 10 in Defense...more like bottom 10...Sengun will be traded at Trade Deadline, gotta sell High on him. His ceiling is not that high

    Early returns have us at #15 on opponent points allowed. However, teams in the middle are tightly clustered at the moment. The Warriors are #10 at 109.8 while we are at 111.2. (Minny is #1 at 99.6 and Washington is #30 at 125.2.)

    Small sample size of only five games but we are not far off--and of course we have also been playing without one of our best defenders in Tari Eason.

    The defense is coming. This is brand new for most of these guys, and Jabari hasn't even locked in yet. If he plays defense like he did tonight, we are going to run off some wins baby!

    Opponent points allowed is a questionable stat as it does not adjust for pace, DEF Rating (Points per 100 possessions) works better but the team needs at least 20 games before defensive numbers stabilize.

    The eye test shows considerable improvement, better yet the improvement comes from more than just FVV and Brooks.
