Made it to the Ds in the roll call on the first round. This is going to be a complete mess. Curious to see how long the "moderates" hold out. Unlike McCarthy, Jordan seems to have no interest in making any concessions to holdouts so it'll be interesting to see how long this goes. But the "moderate Republicans" have never failed when it comes to caving in to the far right and accepting zero concessions in exchange.
Not just unpopular and absolutist, but even illegal positions. For example, he threatens to shut down the government in November unless Democrats agree to disregard Congressional and international laws that require the U.S. to process asylum requests. Boehner's description of him as a 'legislative terrorist' is spot on. He seems willing to dismantle everything. Republicans will suffer harm to the party and the country, but Trump will benefit. This is Trump's party, and the shift from a secret ballot to a public one is meant to exert pressure on all moderate Republicans – they risk being targeted by Trump and his supporters if they vote against Jordan.
Anywhere that Jordan makes Republicans weak are the same places that Trump will make Republicans weak, if he's the nominee. I think this could help in a mid-term year, but it's unlikely many people in a Presidential year are voting for or against their Rep because of Jim Jordan. If Trump's not the nominee, of course, all bets are off.
