Jordan might be elected speaker out of sheer exhaustion but he’s not going to win on the first ballot and it’s going to take many votes to get there. He’s also likely going to be an even weaker speaker than McCarthy. If he’s elected I expect relatively soon we’ll be in the same situation.
by hook or by crook. The Jerk Activates Right-Wing Pressure Campaign in Push to Win Speakership In efforts to close the gap, lawmakers and activists close to him have taken to social media and the airwaves to blast the Republicans they believe are blocking his path to victory and encourage voters to browbeat them into supporting Gym Jordan. It is an extraordinary instance of Republican-on-Republican fighting that underscores the divisions that have wrought chaos inside the party, paralyzing the House of Representatives in the process. reminiscent of Gym's cover up, by any means necessary, of the OSU sexaul scandal
Former officer injured on Jan. 6 slams Jordan Speakership nomination Michael Fanone, a former Capitol police officer who sustained injuries during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, criticized the Jerk Monday for his response to the incident asGym Jordan seeks the House Speakership. “Jim Jordan is an insurrectionist who has no place being second in line to the presidency,” Fanone said in a statement Monday through Courage for America, an organization that pushes against an extremist, far-right agenda in the country. “I witnessed the deadly assault on our democracy with my own eyes, which is why it absolutely disgusts me that extreme Republicans could choose an insurrectionist and election denier as their leader — someone who knew about January 6th ahead of time yet did nothing to stop it,” Fanone added. “This is a very dark time for our democracy and should serve as a wake up call to all Americans that we can never take our democracy for granted.” The jerk would need 217 votes on the House floor to be elected Speaker. With all Democrats backing Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Gym will only be able to afford a few defections.
the Trump skeptic wing of the GOP, in particular the 14 Republican lawmakers representing districts that Biden won in 2020. According to said former swing-district Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Pa. “Swing district Republicans are going to have Jordan and Trump draped around their necks in the 2024 election ... It’s a lot easier to go after Gym Jordan for the events of Jan. 6 and his role in it with Trump than just about any other Republican.” “My advice to those wavering members is: Don’t buckle under this pressure. It will only get worse. If Jordan were to become speaker this type of bullying will be used to get people to fall in line,”
3rd in line to the presidency. But then again, Trump was president. So, hey, why not? It's Trump's party.
On the one hand, it could be good for Democrats because they could pick up some seats where Jordan makes the Republicans in those districts weak. On the other hand, Jordan could shut down the government, crash the economy, and then blame the carnage on Biden.
I would say 100% that Jordan is going to drive a government shutdown in a few weeks. To quote John Boehner, Jordan is a "legislative terrorist." It's remarkable that someone who co-founded the House Freedom Caucus has been normalized to this degree. He has never served in government to serve, only to posture and destroy. The playbook of Jordan and his political allies to take unpopular, absolutist stands and allow the media to portray the situation as "WhY dOn'T bOtH sIdEs CoMe ToGeThEr?" when, in reality, the Jordan wing of the GOP has no interest in governing. They're arsonists who promised to burn down Congress if elected and now they've got matches and fuel. The House under Jordan will undoubtedly pass something completely unpalatable for the Senate and President Biden, refuse to negotiate, and hope that the media muddles the water around their unpopularity and extremism. I honestly don't see how a government shutdown ends with Jordan at the helm.
We really are scraping the bottom of the barrel now when it comes to political leadership in this country. So much for the best and brightest.
This ^^^^^^^ Gym won't be there to govern or lead, he will have trump`s ear and will burn this mother down, he will shut down the government and will not negotiate until some ridiculous law is passed.....whether it's defunding the DOJ or some ridiculous move that will help trump from going to trial. I can only hope the moderates have some backbone, otherwise we can expect a holiday season filled with threats from the extreme party and nothing will get done................kind of like what the gop has done since they took over the majority.
If he does get the spot, pundits and papers will blame Dems with "tHeY haD a cHaNcE to baRGaiN!!". And the moderate Repubs will play along as long as they get their riders inserted in whatever gets eventually passed.
This is just the beginning......... the virus has spread and things are going to get a lot more absurd.
I'm not sure how a shitkicker like Jordan can survive as speaker when he can't keep any promises he makes. I guess the point is to break **** as an act of "doin hard werk." They weaponized primaries, but what happens if more voters are pissed off enough to the point where they give a **** about primaries? https://www.axios.com/2023/10/17/jim-jordan-pressure-campaign-house-speaker-votes GOP speaker nominee Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) is ramping up the pressure on his critics ahead of a House floor vote on Tuesday, but some Republicans are warning it could leave him exposed to backlash. Why it matters: Jordan got significantly close to 217 votes on Monday, but there are too many public holdouts to coast to a victory on a first ballot. Two GOP lawmakers said they are less likely to back Jordan on a second ballot, which could further hinder his odds of getting the gavel. Behind the scenes: One House Republican said primary threats have emerged if they don't back the Jordan, with the member arguing that "the bullying tactics need to stop." Jordan spokesman Russell Dye argued that primary threats are "totally untrue." Zoom out: There's been a massive push to get House Republicans to unify around Jordan, including calls to member offices, conservative TV hosts ramping up the pressure on skeptics and MAGA influencers taking aim at hesitant members on social media. But the push has led to some members to argue that backing Jordan would be "rewarding bad behavior," with one member telling Axios "he's playing nice guy personally but letting attack dogs do the rest." Zoom in: Some members say they're encouraged by the Ohio Republican's openness to bringing up priorities not traditionally backed by conservative hardliners. Multiple GOP lawmakers said that Jordan told them he would not block legislation linking Ukraine funding to Israel funding, which a Jordan spokesman denied. Other members said that Jordan appeared open to bringing a farm bill to the floor. "Jim seeks my counsel when it comes to agriculture and in where we're at with the Farm Bill," House Agriculture Chairman GT Thompson (R-Pa.) told Axios. A Jordan spokesman told Axios that agriculture "is really important to a lot of members, including Mr. Jordan's own district, and we think conversations about agriculture and the farm bill should continue." The intrigue: GOP moderates say they're concerned about Jordan's links to former President Trump, and others flagged his ability to fundraise as a weak point. Centrists and frontliners have also voiced a reluctance to back Jordan after his offer to nominate House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) on the floor only on the first ballot, arguing that the move was disingenuous. The bottom line: Centrists looking to withhold their votes from Jordan mentioned the 55 members of the conference who voted on Friday that they would not support him on the floor. Jordan allies have argued that moderates will cave amid the pressure, with plans to vote despite Jordan voicing that no one should go to the floor without 217 votes during an appearance on Fox News just days ago.
