Then why not get Bol Bol off the waiver wire and build a franchise around him? If all people have his height and nothing about actual eye test and on court play production and efficiency then ya I'm sorry buts that's insanely dumb. Being taller doesn't make you better. Bari's height is supposed to accomplish something. It's supposed to accomplish being more efficient than a 6'5"- 6'6" guard if height is really the difference that seperates them. You know how I know Green is more naturally talented than Jabari? It's pretty simple. Notice how people for Jabari's rookie year make excuses like "no plays drawn for him" or "he was standing in a corner". Well Green was in the exact same situation as 19 year old rookie being regulated to a Tim Hardaway Jr. Role and stood in the corner most of the time early. But the times he got the ball he forces his shot creation. Jabari tried that but he just lost the ball almost Everytime he tried to put the ball down on the floor. Hence why you have two rookie seasons where Green was significantly more efficient while taking significantly more difficult shot attempts than Jabari.
Bol Bol only fits the archetype but that is just asking question why not make Lou Williams or Jordan Clarkson a franchise player. They are JGreen homeless versions. There is also a wider gap of talent where Victor is at the top and guys like Bol Bol at the bottom. The gap is wide.....believe me the taller those players get.
Jabari Smith production so far as a NBA player has him in that tier of player so far dude if not worse. 51% ts as a 7 ft player who almost had all his made fgs assisted.
Jabari was even younger than Green when he entered the league and had problems adjusting, so the majority his stats in this league is actually due to his abysmal showing but he has come around so it seems. Also I suspect Ime Udoka is favoring him over Sengün....so yeah he has more room to grow. The reason behind the signings of VV and Brooks is to cover for Green, Bari and Sengün.......Bari just has the height to get a shot off from anywhere. Bari to me is more a Kawhi, Rui Hachimura type than Victor because he moves more mechanically and not as fluid as Victor does.
Jabari Smith and Green's age difference was inconsequential. It's months a part, not years at the time they joined the league. Both entered at 19. Both were one and done as in that they graduated high school, did one year of something outside of highschool and got drafted. In fact you can make a argument Green had a disadvantage as his one year out of high school was COVID year which canceled the gleague season and they made a make shift bubble tournament of 14 games.
Of course but it is arguable that Jabari has like 18 points room to grow while Jalen only has like 8 points room to grow. If you go imagine their ceiling is at 30 ppg (just an example) which is not impossible. There is a lot of other stats height advantage can bring - rebounds and blocks. Also why are we going Bari vs Green........it was Green vs the other 4.
I don't think they have the same ceiling offensive wise. Green has less room to grow as a offensive player because he's far more advanced as a offensive player. Ya I guess? I agree that Bari's length gives him a significantly higher defensive ceiling.
It is just not wise to talk about something you will need this season's stats of.....lol. You can talk all you want but the game has to be played...and time has to pass.....we are not Gods who can see the future. Lamenting about people taking Bari over Green is just child's play, people with their opinions. You care too much about the noise and not the game itself.
I guess people think it's more likely Cam will steal minutes out of Dillon's pocket than Amen can out of Fred's.
The point of this thread was to discuss this lol. No we can't predict the future but the way posters treat Green even though he's contributed to winning more than Jabari so far is so puzzling to me.
Amen is 6'8" and relatively strong for his frame. He doesn't need to only get minutes behind Fred. He'll get minutes at the 3, 2 and 1. Cam will get minutes behind the starting 3 and 2. We should see a lot of Amen, Green, Cam line ups tossed in throughout the season. Probably more so towards the second half of the season.
Tier 1. Untouchables Smith Amen Tier 2. A godfather type of deal Sengun Cam Tier 3. Don’t want to, but IF it makes the team better now and in the future, I am listening. Tari Green
Correct but I think this thread is still made for the future rather than now. Newsflash- the team had a 22 win record, that little winning share of Green over Bari is not going to deter people. Talking about winning on a losing team....come on.....
Ya but I think expressing what rhrce done so far as players as a good way to project right? It's not like both players joined ar completely different ages and completely different stages of development. It's not like Green did 4 years of college and joined the NBA and Jabari is just this one and done greenhorn but with more raw natural talent. That's not the case here.
I respectfully disagree on that. Im not a Green basher, Im pro ALL Rocket players but I just have not seen in him what I expected....that dawg! I thought he was more Kobe but Im seeing more Zach LaVine. Not bad but not what I expected. Thats why I would consider trading him. Ausar, plus one of Detriots bigs would be a definite target. You might think Im CRAZY but I like what I see out of Cam, more than Jalen at this point.
Up to now I would only list Sengun as untouchable. He has the rarest skillset of any of them. I need to see more from Bari than just a couple of summer league and a couple of preseason games before I forgot all the bad I saw on display last year.
I know these are feeling you have. They don't match anything with the eye test and actual production and efficiency numbers on the court so far. Jalen Green not being Kobe level doesn't make him less of a franchise type player than Jabari.
I assume because Cam won SL MVP and caught the media's eye, but yeah I will be surprised if Cam gets more votes than Amen in the end. Amen is in line for more minutes all else being equal (less depth at point guard than on the wing), is older and has more experience, and, I think, more talent.
You're right, its just my assessment and Im hoping that Ime can pull more out of Jalen that he develops on both sides of the ball. That can only benefit the Rockets.
