That was just the Roman name for Israel. 120 years ago the West Bank and the Gaza strip were part of the Ottoman empire, then they was captured by the Israelis. After that they was part of Egypt, Jordan, and Syria. Then they were captured by the Israelis again.

Most Jewish people I know do not hold those beliefs, just Israeli. I know 4:1 more Jewish people than Israelis. But both of those groups have expressed to me that Zionism is their right when it comes up given this is going to be how many Gaza wars since 2000. Many of the Muslim people I have known (typically South Asian or Arabs, and fewer than the number of Jewish people I’ve known) are vehemently pro-Palestinian. I had one senior colleague try to sell me the Khazar hypothesis. I told him that it is just used as an anti Israeli trope and the supposed European ancestry of the Israelis does not mean anything given that the state of Israel has existed for 80 years and its people are able to and are willing to defend that existence. When the British took the region they called it Palestine. The UN carved Palestine, not Israel, into two regions, one of which Zionists called Israel.
Seems the surprise attack by Hamas is being used as the pretext for Israel to deliver not just a huge blow to Hamas, but to levy utter destruction upon the Gaza strip. Seeing those images of whole areas leveled, one can not imagine that there isn't a mass loss of civilians.
But folks are too distracted by Hamas acts of cruelty to note that Israel just went and killed innocent kids, women, elderly, men while "combating Hamas." Hell some folks look at pics of gaza being leveled and think that Israel did the right thing
