If anything we should have stayed and supported the regime to exploit its natural resources. I thought that WAS the plan but was proven wrong of course. Now China has a foothold there and those rare earth minerals will be theirs for the taking.
I wouldn't count on the PRC doing that great either. The PRC have accused groups associated with the Taliban of funding terrorism. They've also strongly supported the Pakistani military government that has a strained relationship with the Taliban. The Taliban while living in caves still are aware of world events. They know that their Muslim brothers and sisters the Uighars have been heavily oppressed in the PRC.
No shortage of outrage in this thread, but reality is more depressing. I slept through Afghanistan cuz life and stuff.
Former chief of staff for WH during Afghanistan hits the nail on the head. Neocons and deep state don't want to ask the real questions
And the Taliban conveniently has some better military hardware leftover by the US. I doubt the White House would bring that up, since that military hardware is also used to brutally suppress the population and impose extreme Islam law and customs.
Look, the only obvious problem with not being in Afghanistan anymore is not so much the occupation, but is how sleepy joe failed to follow my 100% foolproof detailed plan on how to egress with dignity that i still have not yet formulated - important talking head person from 2021 *Nodding
It's truly amazing how stupid even the "Moderate" Republicans are. All the same low iq right wingers who get told what to do by others cuz they're too damn dumb. Biden in this video was talking about the need to establish a government and not leave a power vacuum at time after al qaeda fell. I just don't get the argument from right wingers. We spent 100 billion dollars training the Afghan military AFTER biden said this. If biden took all the weapons away when they withdrew then everyone would say the 100 billion we spent was legitimate and the Afghan army didn't stand a chance cuz biden took the weapons away. If biden keeps the weapons in and the 100b Afghan army doesn't fight then that's on biden also lol. The problem is the 100 billion we spent was a scam and you morons don't have the brain ability to think critically. Just so dumb @AroundTheWorld You people are genuinely not the smartest @Space Ghost
I was a libertarian an hour ago and now I am a Republican. Comical. And my point had nothing to do with his actual message and everything to do with him fully present.
Was trying to figure out what this meant or why this thread is even bumped; was it the Afghan earthquake? Some humanitarian concern? Then i read an article this AM that said a bunch of facebook boomers and idiots (e.g, crackhead ex actor James Woods) are reading fake news articles that say that Hamas = the Afghan Taliban - oblivious to the fact that Afghanistan is over 1000 miles away, and a sworn enemy of Iran - which is Hamas' primary backer) Enjoy your ivermectin cracker for breakfast, clown.
Time to update this thread to Afghanistan 2024 Tl;dw: Taliban is now fighting ISIS-K, which is like mega MAGA to old Reagan Republican Taliban. The fight is so deep Taliban actually receives American air support to suppress ISIS-K from spreading their influence across their region. Any of y'all still want to dump 50-100B+ per year to prop up green zones in Kabul?
The Trump Administration, who were months into developing a plan when Biden showed up, must also be held accountable. If this was such a non-starter of an idea, Trump himself needs to be held accountable for negotiating the US exit with the Taliban. But of course if the Rs aren't looking for accountability but an election year partisan attack, then you go right ahead and be outraged.
Yeah, both administrations dropped the ball on this one. Trump negotiated a shitty deal and Biden didn't do a better job preparing for the withdrawal.
I will say it again but the Afghanistan withdrawal was the worst chapter of the Biden presidency. While yes the previous administration negotiated the withdrawal it was implemented under the Biden admin. Biden himself was saying stuff like “in no reality was the Afghan government going to suddenly collapse” even as city after city was falling. Unlike about of things that the Biden is criticized for this wasn’t something that Congress needed to act on but was solely within the Executive branch.
One major problem is the upper levels of military leadership is hot garbage in many ways. They don't want to tell the truth. They want to write reports that make it look like they accomplished something at their latest post to get their next star. Had the decision makers actually talked to the guys on the ground that trained the Afghan army and/or fought with them they would have told a much different story. They were a terrible fighting force and it was pretty much common knowledge the Taliban would roll them. Yes, some Afghan units were okay but even the guys that were fighting alongside our tier 1 soldiers were lacking and got some of our guys killed or wounded.
