Understand people in Western nations besides places like Ireland fund it insulting and disrespectful to Israel to express empathy for Palestinians
Understand people in Western nations besides places like Ireland fund it insulting and disrespectful Yes. So again which stage?
The comparison comes with similarities and differences. The main similarities are a powerful industrialized nation as wanting a group of people out and fence them into specific. Areas to better control them.
2 state will probably never happened bc there's too much hatred and violence that hit both side over the years that there's generations worth of hostility. Regardless if Israel levels Palestine to the ground, forms a cooperative 2 state, etc. There will always b a person harboring intense hatred for Israel for the damages they inflicted onto his/her life, and same scenario for a person harboring hatred for Palestine. Terrorist and extremists just plotting and waiting for the right moment to inflict revenge. Religion also doesn't help with this conflict. Really hard to solve this conflict peacefully. In a fanasty world, a superpower country or super hero threatens to wipe both country off the map if they don't abide to an evenly divided 2 state situation
That's the part people don't understand when they express platitudes of "both sides just need to settle their differences". That's asking for humans to erase their childhood trauma and PTSD.
I have no solution. I'm at a point of cynicism now. The only thing I can hope for is Westerners to change their perspective a bit and gain a tad bit more empathy for Palestinians. The only long term solution I can think of is mimicking the same actions the international community did to the Boer controlled South African government with divestment and sanctions to Israel. We already are divested from Hamas obviously lol as we as a nation officially declare then a terrorist org. So maybe the international community divesting from Israel will be the ultimate long term solution that is anything besides flattening Gaza. As of now the only thing Israel thinks will be a repercussion over a massive strike resulting in many civilian deaths is some angry Irish dude in a UN security council meeting yelling at them.
What a massive intelligence failure. Jesus christ. It's insane how the MAGATs are somehow putting this on biden
Wasn't it fascinating how every right winger was 1000% sure Iran was fully involved and we needed to bomb them just yesterday?
Maybe Bibi wanted this to happen? His government is tenuous at best, and it lacks the support of the everyday Israelis. He certainly would know a war with Hamas would shore up his support and help stave off his corruption charges.
I think about the analogies of Palestine to Northern Ireland quite a bit. They're definitely there, and in Europe I'd say the Irish are probably the most understanding of the Palestinian cause. Having said that, as time passed, even Gerry Adams has said that putting out bombs that would necessarily cause civilian deaths - particularly in Belfast in 1972 - (even if they weren't intended to do so) was a huge mistake. It brought a response that was overwhelming and led to the height of the Troubles. While I can UNDERSTAND the anger that leads to that...I can't morally support that. And I'd say the same about Israel. What I have a harder time with here is civilians clearly not being mere collateral damage this weekend....they were the target. Hitting up concerts for victims and dragging women, children, and the elderly out of their homes is a step away (in my perspective) from civilians dying due to a bomb placed by a military facility. I believe Hamas has made a huge mistake here...because just as their anger and PTSD have led to this...it's clear to understand how those same emotions will lead to a massive response from a far superior force in Israel...and clear to understand how a lot of people who aren't as well versed in all of this as you are will see it as well justified.
It's definitely one of those things were the motivations line up perfectly but it still lacks any actual evidence and is essentially a conspiracy theory at this point
I don't think there is anything morally to support about some ptsd effected kid joining Hamas and ending up a terrorist killing innocent civilians. It's just a fact of what is. It's just a fact of the human condition.
