FVV does have some physical limitations and he is getting older - no way around that. He isn't a franchise player either - but he contributes more to winning basketball games than KPJ ever has or ever will because he is very smart, disciplined and understands the percentages.

I'm not sure oomph is the most important criteria for a point guard. I prefer things like intelligence, court awareness, vision, passing skills, etc. KPJ had next to none of that. As for oomph, Jalen has enough for the entire team.

Good riddance to Porter. We were never going to get anywhere with him running the show, and his ego wouldn't have allowed him to gracefully slide into a non-starter role where he could have helped more.

Some paradoxal claims here. You can't have it both ways.

You can't say people sag off Jalen Green to prevent the drive hence why he creates separation and then claim he can't be great on ball. I'm glad I wasn't clear in what I mean by "separation", yes there is separation to create a clean shot but I was actually specifically referring to separation to blow by a defender with or without a screen. It also doesn't help your case that Green already is around top 20 in volume of drives to the rim in the league and already gets to the rim more often than third year Ant Edwards. So the fact that you are claiming that teams sag off him a lot while he still gets the the rim and blows by defenders so often really emphasizes my point more than actual reality which is ironic because the reality is teams don't really sag off Green. They might play under on screens because on a RELATIVE scale they are more afraid of his explosion to the rim than his outside shot but they never sag off unless he's on the opposite side of the court where the ball handler is where there is no realistic passing lane where any player would be sagged off on in said situation.

Green collapses defenses very often. He does it more than guards like Cade or Ant or Booker. His blow by speed WITH the ball is already elite. AND now you are saying he still is blowing by these dudes while they sag off him in fear of the drive which I find funny.

Look, Green's decision making once he collapses the defense is bad relative to more seasoned players like Booker(arguably better than current Jaylen Brown who is a vet star at this point). But that is a trait that is more teachable through experience and proper coaching than the natural gifts that allow Green to blow by defenders with the ball. So when Lowe says he's great on ball, they mean his natural ability on ball is great. Yes, compared to the current league stars, statistically he isn't great. But that isn't the type of "great" Lowe is referring to.

And Jalen Green is nowhere near a "bad shooter". He's streaky but not bad. His career 80% ft rate is decent. I would say with the level of difficulty of his shot, a bad shooter would probably be in the mid 20s 3 pt percentage, not mid to lower 30s. That streakiness has to do with shot selection and general weaker base because of his age. Age and strength training along with better shot selection will slowly increase that 3pt% over time.

He can shoot quite easily over small guys like FVV. If he can make those at a good clip...damn.

That is why he was not drafted, because he had little athleticism and short arms.

He then worked himself up to being minor scoring threat.

Outside being a mentor, I am actually intrigued to see how much fuel there is left in his tank....he is going to be 30 soon.

More than likely small guards would not be assigned to guard Amen. He's too big. It's be one of the best wing defenders that will be assigned to him.

What makes this future backcourt intriguing is opposing teams would have to make difficult decisions on which guy their go to wing defender sticks on.

More than likely teams would stick the best guard defender on Green and the best wing defender on Amen in a hopefully near future starting backcourt.

I really hope that by the end of the season Ime has to make a tough decision to start Amen because he's already being more impactful than FVV. That would be just absolutely amazing and to me one of the major aspects of whether next season is a true success.

Cam needs to cut or slide to the corner. You're clogging the lane

While I'm high on Amen, the last part is not true until we see him play meaningful NBA minutes. Also, we cannot start Amen with Sengun if he doesn't have a serviceable shot. We need shooters around Sengun.

It is a sorta best case scenario. I will give you that.

Also it could be the worst case scenario where FVV is a utter disaster where even a rookie 20 year old poor shooting rookie who looks lost often is still the better option.

I think the latter is less likely than the former.

Save your breath, @fchowd0311. By the end of this season, all these naysayers will suddenly have morphed into "I told you so all along!" types regarding Green. I'm already envisioning @Bobbythegreat's "I always said he'd be great if he just started playing better!"

With or without a shot Amen is a force to be reckoned with. You're undervaluing his speed, finishing package, and IQ.

    Couple a things.
    1. There are drives off the bounce and drives off the catch. A good O system would design drives for Green where he gets an angle of attack, off the catch. There is no contradiction. His drives off the bounce are not good. And in fact very often they are not even "drive" drives, just meandering in the paint.

    2. Green is not a "bad" shooter, I never said he was. He's just not a great shooter. So defenses are happy to give him the separation.

if defenses are happy to give non-bad shooters separation, that's simply called bad defense.

good defenses defend consistently anything from a respectable shooter to great. that's how good defense exists. it's a habit

I am totally with you and @Nook on that. We got now our guy, a leader, intelligent, All-Star, champion, I get all this. I am rooting for him. I was fully on board with the contract and the money, I think we got a great FA signed.

I am just saying you look at him, and he looks awfully pedestrian in the footage...I can get where the allure of KPJ came from.

Well, it worked on most nights... Given that he's a complete minus on D and given that his drives are more dangerous, Ds were happy to live with Jalen Green on the floor, giving him plenty of middies...

Yup - noticed the same. He is ball watching and not thinking about how he is allowing his man to easily guard him AND support the overmatched point of attack defender. I think Cam is ultimately going to be a steal for us but I have seen more than a few plays in practice clips so far that support the notion that he may benefit from less playing time and more learning time to start the season off despite his scorching summer league play. I don't know if that means maybe a little time in the G league(I suspect not because of how he torched the Summer League) but I've definitely seen a lot of the minus tendencies that showed up in draft analysis videos that didn't pop up as much in the Summer League when he could be both ball dominant and beat players to the spot fairly easily.

how did it work? is he the only guy on the floor? You're attributing the rockets being a 20 win team to him apparently and lets not act like he's getting the westbrick defense where nobody cares if he shoots 3s

Looking at the footage, how many baskets has Jalen gotten in total, besides the one alleyoop fvv threw him? These footages we are seeing are the smallest of samples.

You are acting like Jalen Green is doing the Chandler Parsons special of basically living off a more talented player breaking down the defense and letting Parsons drive against not set defenses.

I'm sorry but do you not recall the claims of "AAU offense". Jalen Green is the one who's collapsing the defense. There is no Harden here constantly collapsing the defense for his teammates allowing them to drive to the rim against a not set defender.

Jalen Green is literally the guy on the team that is collapsing defenses for guys like KJ Martin, Tari, Bari, Tate etc to get to the rim against not set defenders.

This can be shown in so many ways like the fact that he literally has more primary PnR ball handling possessions than last year's starting pg and was still more efficient with a higher ppp and lower turnover rate on primary ball handler pnr possessions. And remember spamming pnr dribbling possessions was the bread and butter offense last season. That's what people mean by "AAU offense". Simple pnR sets with no off ball movement outside the screener and ball handler.

So again paradoxical claims. He gets sagged off for fear of the drive but is near top of the NBA in amount of drives to the rim and then try to hand waive the contradictory nature of your claims by saying Jalen Green is essentially the KJ Martin type guy who mostly gets to the rim on non-set defenses and that's why he has a high volume of drives which is utter nonsense.
