Damn, I missed that pass? Was that in the practice video? Holy crap. I had to slow that down to see what happened. Y'all need to watch this play slowly. He cleared out 4 guys, killed the entire paint defense and passed the ball to the open man he himself freed up. All of that was basically done while in the air. LOL. Four dudes lost track of either the player they were defending or they exited the paint from that one fake Amen did. Then he sees Cam standing bored to death in the paint and rifles the pass to him for the easy bucket. That was beautiful.
I think that was Day 1, despite the tweet being today. Recycling popular memes is a common way to get Likes. Dude might have used that recycling memes strategy with a camp highlight
If anyone is terribly surprised by this group getting lost on D and giving up an easy dunk, there is a film from last year... the year before ...and the year before that ... The good news is that we have a facilitator who can generate easy looks.
You should also watch Dillon Brooks spun completely around and, to a lesser extent, FVV look befuddled on that play, too, then.
Watched some scrimmage footage and my enthusiasm went down significantly. I loved FVV signing, such a cool little dude, great personality and everything... But boy, there is no escaping how mid he is as basketball and athletic talent. KPJ, with all his BS had oomph, no denying that. We're still a looooong way, based on what I saw...
Wait are the Rockets doing a brand refresh? Like entirely new logo and jerseys soon? I hope they add some color to the logo. Maybe a gradient also with a vibrant rage of colors ranging from deep red to light orange/yellow allowing for a vibrant color combo for new jerseys.
I’ve valued Zach Lowe when he writes/talks about teams I don’t watch because I felt I was learning stuff. Now with this piece about the familiar Rockets, I can see that the guy is pretty much clueless and does poor research. We can’t lose anymore because of the OKC deal? Wrong! If we were as bad as last 3 years we keep the pick. Jalen shouldn’t take middies? Wrong! that’s what defenses were giving him, most of the time he had no other options, and the muddy was the right decision. Jalen is a great on-ball guard? wrong! He’s mid at best… Where he’s elite is off-the-catch with a lane opening: a blur and a dunk. Tari should do more with the ball? W T actual F??
Great isn't sometimes mean statistically. It means by ability especially for a player of Green's age and lack of experience. Maybe they mean he can be great also instead of "is currently great". That means they have the tools to be great like his elite dribble separation combined with his shot making skills. Compare Green's on ball efficiency with players in similar roles and experience as Green like Booker and Ant. Are they a level below those guys in their first two years? Green doesn't have to be pigeon holed into anything. You are ignoring that one of his best traits is on ball dribble separation. Look at Green's PnR primary ball handler possessions also for his first two years compared to players like Booker, Lavine, Ant, Beal etc. It's not just significantly higher volume but also lower turnover freq, higher points per possession. He was better WITH the ball snaking through PnR defenses with his handle better than all those guys in their respective first two years and quite frankly by a large margin. Green is extremely agile with and without he ball and he should utilize both aspects of his game. Last season he was at 60% rate of fgs made unassisted. This year he should drop to 50% and that's a healthy balance and should help create more efficiency.
People can say what they want, but Sam Vecenie is extremely honest and straightforward. He may not talk as much as some of the other media members, but he understands basketball at a very high level and is humble enough to continue learning.
Oh, he gets plenty of separation, but also very often he’s given the separation to prevent the drive, which is his best strength… Problem is he’s not a great shooter, so it’s a mediocre option for the team. If Udoka is serious about winning he should be working day and night to design actions that give Jalen a lane… Not to experiment with suboptimal options
