What do the dolphins have to do with it? The panthers have cap space to franchise him... I expect it...
Here's a handful of names... not sure about scheme fit, but pending free agents on teams that may not be contending... possibly could be had for a 3-7th depending on the market... not looking at anyone over 30... I suspect some on the list could fetch more than a 3rd if agreeing to extension... Danielle Hunter Leonard Williams DJ Reader Marcus Davenport Adoree Jackson Yannick Ngakuoe Chase Young Jeff Okudah Devin White
I'm curious what Duane Brown would cost at his age... Tunsil misses a lot of time and Brown has experience in this system... Don't know if his bridge was burned on the way out... Could see value having that experience on the bench... have to imagine he and Demeco would get along...
Demeco mostly runs a Base 4-3 This mostly affect the front 7 but players listed above current system: Danielle Hunter - Base 3-4 Leonard Williams - Base 3-4 DJ Reader - Base 4-3 Marcus Davenport - Base 4-3 Adoree Jackson - Base 3-4 Yannick Ngakoue - Base 4-3 Chase Young - Base 4-3 Jeff Okudah - Base 3-4 Devin White - Base 3-4
Davenport would probably be cheap... Reader was always a good run stopper... not sure Bengals would quit on season at deadline but would be great if they did... Chase Young is favorite out of those but I think he costs too much... would rather have a 1st who is younger, healthier, and less cap space. If we're talking a 3 this year and a 2025 #2 I would probably do it if he works out a reasonable extension...
Claypool seems like a locker room cancer. Steelers traded him away (and they really could use WRs). On the Dolphins, he is a luxury that they don't need. If he works out, fine. However, they can cut him and it doesn't hurt the team. The Texans do not want someone like that in the locker room with a rookie QB and young WRs.
We are buyers, in general, at this point regardless of position. When we drafted CJ, our clock started so whether it’s chasing a division title or setting the stage for 24/25/26, we need to continue to push our foundation. Caserio hasn’t been great at free agency or multiple first round picks, so maybe he can excel at midseason trades. Getting a player like Young or Higgins is what we need to do and sign multiple year deals while not mortgaging our future drafts. Imagine getting Higgins and still taking a 1st round WR next year. Suddenly the corps would look young and formidable for a young franchise QB.
Call me crazy, but I wouldn't mind trading Tunsil and drafting a top tier tackle. Tunsil misses a lot of time and takes up a lot of cap space. If they could sign a quality free agent and flip him for a high pick you turn 1 player into 2...
With the way the OL has performed without him, and with how much cap space the Texans will have/could have if they did trade him, I would absolutely listen to offers at this point. A lot of teams have bad OL/tackle situations and with the way the market is going I don’t think his contract will scare anyone away.
I’m with you. You want a franchise tackle when you find your franchise QB and while early, positive signs for CJ. Tunsil has always felt good, not great, to me and add in him missing time like you noted… If we can get solid draft capital for him and free up the money, it’d be awesome going into next year. Next year’s draft is loaded with talent, so the more swings we get, the better IMO.
