Been watching their scrimmages 2 days in a row, it's a brick fest and Sengun is barely involved in the offense. I can already feel the rage some posters here will have when the season starts lol
This is what stood out to me: Sengun was cooking and deserves more touches. Dillon a clamp gawd. Amen is good
I'm also optimistic about this season but I think it's worth noting that these are definitely the sunshine and rainbows times - what will define this team is not how they respond now, but how they respond in times of adversity. How will the teammates support each other when they mess up - is it constructive or destructive? Will those messages be received well? How well does the team own their own problems - do they leave it to coaches to point it out or do they police each other? As someone who works at building teams, those are all really difficult questions to answer at face value because so much of it is contextual to the team - how do the individuals on the team approach conflict, how mature are they, how emotional are the individuals on the team, do they have some guys with high EQ who can bridge gaps between the players, etc. Its going to be FASCINATING to see how this team gels. At least on the surface I have been encouraged by what we have heard players and coaches say but I think you can also make the case that there are warning flags out there for most everyone on this roster this year so I would call myself cautiously optimistic and I think about things like: - is it concerning that Brooks was an All Defense player on a contending team and his team made no attempt to retain him? - should we be worried that FVV was reportedly at odds with their younger core - guys like Scottie Barnes? - Jalen talks a big game about accountability and defense but he was also the poster boy for poor defensive focus - Jabari seems very fiery - how will that mesh with his teammates - especially if he isn't producing at a high level? - our coach was fired from his last gig for inappropriate behavior - our GM has clearly amassed a lot of talent but also seemed to surround the team with the worst coaching and cultural fits the last few years(KPJ, Silas, Wood, etc) .....but yeah man - there are bright spots there too - Amen seems like a genuinely cerebral type of guy and very charismatic - FVV does seem to be a willing leader(more than we have had in the past) - Jalen & Jabri do seem willing to do whatever to be better - Brooks does bring a sorely needed defensive mindset to the team - Jock/Tate/Eason can be a much better version of last year's Goon Squad(aka guys who do ALL the dirty work to make it really hard for the other team) - Udoka seems to be the rare coach who tries to adapt his coaching approach to the team and DID bring a culture shift to a young Celtics team that made a Finals run.
If we run FVV Green backcourt we need to run the offense through Sengun. I feel like Amen is going to be accelerated into starting PG sooner than later.
Really like the reactions here; their genuinely appreciative demeanor said a lot about each of them. In a good way.
Splitter looks like he is freshly retired......pretty young still. Younger than Boban. Boban's shooting is priceless.
Ime and Demeco are game changers. They’re going to lead Htown sports to a new golden age. It’s so great to have bad ass coaches that you can be proud of and provide us an advantage in every game.
Oh yeah? I watched that video earlier and these are the thoughts that came to mind : Sengun's gonna average 25 offensive rebs/game and probably black out by the 3rd quarter with the shooting I've seen so far. Dillon is indeed a defensive juggernaut in these videos. There were times I was getting aggravated watching that dude play D. Now I just need to see him hit a shot. I absolutely love Amen and what he could become, and he had a really nice pass in this game, but there was one play where he just blew around Jabari and looked like he had a layup, but instead passed it out for some reason. I couldn't tell if he was under the basket or thought Jabari was about to come from behind. I thought he should've just got a dunk or layup, but maybe I'm seeing it wrong. Absolutely love this dude, though. Nice to see some misses, though, and actual full-length plays to see what everybody's doing. The 3 point shooting at the end between Sengun and Boban was funny. I fully expected people to say "why isn't Boban getting more minutes?!" after watch him pop 3's. lol. Uncle Jeff screaming "Got DAM!" after every one of Tate's FT misses was funny. Who was the apparently really tall guy with the duffle bag sitting next to, I think, Stone?
