“Welfare” or income assistance was only a small part of the Great Society. And many of its programs targeted black and other minority populations. Furthermore, if a welfare state creates single parent homes, you would expect to see a higher percentage of single parent homes in Europe where the welfare state is considerably larger. Yet the opposite is true. Finally, marriage has declined across all demographics (including those that don’t typically avail themselves to income assistance) so you would expect to see more unmarried mothers given this trend In short, your argument has no merit. I suspect you’re trying to be a wiseass like David Brooks was with his hamburger tweet last week. But given the documented ways that slavery destroyed black families and prosperity, to even imply that the Great Society was somehow worse than slavery is dumb beyond measure.
Another problem with todays rhetoric they no one has any sense of perspective. There are reasonable arguments that Great Society programs had negative effects and one of those was that there was decline in two parent households among black Americans (although that could be more correlation than causation). To say that it was ore damaging than slavery where slave masters could just tear apart black families by selling off children, mothers or fathers is ludicrous.

this political stunt by Gaetz only strengthens Dem's negotiating position, from which Dems leader Jeffries can reach agreement with 5 non-crazy GOPers in the House, who are sick and tired of the crazies like MTG, Gozar to pick any non-crazy GOP, who is not currently a member of Congress, to be the speaker these 5 GOPers and all the Dems would make a majority; they may be receptive to such sane GOPers as Liz Cheney, Kinsinger, Gary Peters, Justin Amash and the likes. the new speaker will put forth a Republican agenda, but with no nonsense
i believe john kelly. but it wont matter to the trump cult. remember that trump said POWs are not war heroes because they were captured and "conservative" "pro-military" republicans still voted for him in 2016. trump could literally take a dump on the graves at arlington and he would not lose a single supporter. in fact, they would applaud him for it.
