The President was under no obligation have the barbed wire cut, or to mandate that the floating barrier in the Rio Grande be removed, or to mandate that the container wall in Arizona be removed. He can allow the states to build barriers to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

That is correct. I think those things are more show than impactful, since you can just dig under or get yourself cut through the wire and still legally declare asylum, which then means the US has to help care for their wounds in addition to processing them. I personally have no problem with the Arizona rail cart barrier or Texas wall (if it doesn't mess the environment up too much). Let states spend their money. But that's like a 0.1% solution compared to: foreign diplomacy, Latin American development, congressional funding, and changing the asylum laws.

Or the immigration deal bush wanted to pass was more progressive than the gang of 8 deal. I still remember the talk show backlash agaisnt the deal was insane. They were going burn down dc if Bush passed immigration reform.

The right wingers will never pass a immigration law cuz there's no incentive. They want a broken border so they can blame biden and have viral videos that their low iq followers can't grasp @Salvy

What a massive piece of ****. He just made up some random half a million number without even mentioning that most of them will be deported.

Every day I realize why I hate billionaires so much. Musk is such a utter piece of ****. Billionaires need to be taxed more so these ********ers will have less time trolling.

The once cave diving expert, a man who loves to engage in today’s hot topics, is yet again involved in a current hot topic. If he is serious about seeking this attention, someone should ask him about his proposed solution. Let’s see how far the first principle takes him.

Imagine if he was using his large audience to educate people that 90% of migrants will be deported cuz they don't have an appointment. Imagine if he told people the FACTS and laws instead of fear mongering.

None of these people ever want to solve the issues which is what @Kim @Salvy don't understand. They LOVE the chaos so they blame biden for everything. It's such utter bullshit

o_O I think your general anger/disdain interferes with your reading comprehension. Never said Congress wants to solve anything, but it is their job. Absolutely think that Republicans want to fear monger, generally, and Dems want to show the suffering, generally. Foreign diplomacy + international development + funding + updating laws is not a simple campaign slogan. Go Astros though.

@Kim doesn't fall into that category. Sometimes, I'm amazed by your choice of reading and your perspective :)

I genuinely want to hear Musk's proposed solutions. The media should hold him accountable and seek his input, especially now that he has ventured into politics.

Except the Constitution specifically gives the Federal government and not states the power to regulate borders, international trade and immigration.

Also Pelosi in 2018 offered a deal to provide Wall Funding to Trump in exchange for action in DACA. That was sunk by Congresisonal
republicans who also rejected funding for the Wall.

That doesn't obligate the federal government to sue for removal of barriers. Building a barrier is not a regulation, for one thing. The barriers do not violate the federal regulations on immigration for another. The floating barrier was removed based on a lawsuit regarding navigable waters (as though the problem was shipping in that part of the Rio Grande and not that is made it more difficult to cross from Mexico).

Regarding the wall, Congress did approve Trump building a wall, but just funded a small fraction of it, not all that he wanted. When Biden took over, he halted that wall money already appropriated for it, and instead used it on roads and cameras and tried to argue that it still counts. My guess here (prior to reading into it) is that the Biden administration is going to just finish the wall portion that Congress approved. If so, that's the right thing to do because that's what Congress funded.

It seems from reporting they're willing to build the entire wall if the gop gives the administration ukraine funding for another year. Seems like that's the trade behind the scenes at the moment. Either way they're going build the portion that's already been paid for by eagle pass.

Either way they're not going let the immigration issue bury them and I'm happy he's making tough decision. Being president sucks
